CEX twunts

Post by radddogg »

I went to CEX today to trade in a phone.

Went on their website first and read their condition grading.

The phone is only 3 months old so is in pretty good condition except for this chip out of the corner. The charger etc is present but there is no box.

Image
Mobile Phone Grading Guide

Mint - Working phone in as new/mint condition. Complete with original box and accessories as sold new.

Good - Working phone in good condition with slight cosmetic blemishes. Charger supplied. If the phone includes a music player/radio then it is supplied with headphones. If the phone has PDA functionality a sync cable and/or docking cradle is supplied. Missing original packaging.

Poor - Working phone in poor cosmetic condition. Original or 3rd party charger supplied but missing accessories and original packaging.

Non-working - We buy non-working phones. Non-working phones must be intact, not crushed or snapped in half. Non-working examples: dead, cracked, broken/bleeding LCD (screen), not powering up, speaker/mic faults, broken aerial, etc. Accessories are not required. We do not sell non-working phones. Non-working phones are either repaired, stripped for parts to repair other phones or recycled into base materials to be used again. Nothing goes to landfill.
What grade would you give it?

Certainly not a 'Slight' cosmetic blemish so must be in the poor band imo.

I have voted good, but that was before I got to see the picture for all its worth, bloody sunlight on my laptop screen. So in hindsight I would definately say poor.. Its a big chunk missing and not just a scratch as initially thought

I tried selling a phone there before which was almost immaculate aside from two very light scratches on the screen which you had to hold it to the light to notice, and which disappeared completely when the screen was on.

They refused it!

If it's owt like the store local to me, where they'll offer you 20% of the original cost ONLY if it's immaculate & then try to sell it 2nd hand for MORE than the original retail cost, then I'd say they went for Non-working

Reef is right! They said it was classed as non-working! I got them to bring up the website then got them to explain how the phone gets classed as non-working, the guy couldn't so brought the manager who basically said they wouldn't accept it and to bugger off!

The picture looks worse as it's so zoomed in and focused on the damage. Just looking at it you can't see it.

Just bung it on ebay and sell it to someone in spain/greece for £££'s.

This "CEX" sounds like the phone equivilient of webuyanycar.

The price of some of the stuff CEX is crazy. Last time I went they were selling unboxed second hand GFXs for more than retail and their phones were laughable.

Interesting they should have that grading system. As most of the phones I've seen there were dirty and scratched.

This site compares the recyclers and usually get a better price than the individual site do directly.

To most of them it would be minor cosmetic damage and most only have working or non working as an option.

I went in there as according to their website prices we could trade in the palm pre, a nokia 6600 and £80 and walk out with a HTC desire. What's a clucking type?

the type you normally see queued up in cex, cash converters etc, clucking for their next hit, to be purchased with the pittance that kind of shop pays for their stolen dvd players/phones.

bunch of spackers tbh

Years back I took in some Laptop stuff...worth alot back then...and they said they had to evaluate it.

Time passed and I kept calling back, they kept saying their laptop guy hadn't had chance etc etc.

After 3 months went by they told me that because they'd had the gear and I hadn't reclaimed it they would keep it and not give me anything for it.

4 staff members politely escorted me out of the shop after me dragging the little *sniff* I love u! behind the counter over it and threatening to embed a 19" crt monitor in his rear end. Took them a short while to understand I would happily offer them the same deal.
I bet one of them was the laptop guy too

no amount of profanity can truly express my feelings for the wonderful people at CEX

note: This is possibly the only time I have ever become violent in a shop or in fact pretty much anywhere where I actually started 'a bit of a fuss'.

CEX are absolute cnuts.

I could have knocked the lights out of one of the flood victims that works there.

Went once with my N95, it was working but case was scratched - Got told they'd pay me £80. Ok fair enough i said i'll come back in a bit (i went to other places see how much they'd offer me). Went back to CEX as you do, this time though i got told they'd only pay me £50 ! I asked him politely wtf is he on about since about 20 minutes ago it was worth £30 more , he said "it's scratched on the back" I just told him to pass it back and walked off, never again.

Condition of that phone is poor, and any phone buy outfit will deem it so.

But CEX also sell crap phones as mint, I was after a N86 recently and went to my local CEX to have a look at a mint phone.

Bunch of plicks, I have a 14month old 5800 Nokia that has been through the wars that is in 100% better condition than their mint phones.

Stick it on Egay someone will give you good money for it.
