yet another change in my life UPDATED 13/12/2011
As some of you will know I was involved in a recent business as in this thread
http://www.rt2468abcd.r8technology.co.uk/viewtopi ... 5&t=131978
Things with that did not turn out as planned as I'm not prepared to carry anyone so I was bought out of the business and found myself with no job. As some will know how things are at the moment that not a good thing so I put together a CV and fired it of to quite a few company's and to be honest I was not expecting to hear anything from any of them. Then I received a call from one of the companies I had sent a CV to and that was Lotus engineering and development they was asking if I could attend an interview and to be honest I was optimistic just though it would be one of those waste of time interviews but thought to myself what have I got to loose so of I went to the interview. On arrival I went through security where a visitor pass had already been done with my name on so I was taken to the section where the interview was to be conducted. There was two blokes in the interview asking me all sorts of questions and I was able to answer them correctly and I was then shown around the plant and was then lead to my car where one of the blokes who interviewed me and then walked me round said I'm exactly what they are looking for and would I accept a position with them if it was to be offered to which I replied yes not a problem and was informed he would be in touch shook hands and off I went on my way home. A week or so passed and started to think well that was a waste of time and out of the blue my phone rang it was Lotus asking when I could start with them to which I replied the 5th December I'm available to start and was then emailed all the relevant info. Monday the 5th arrived and I set of to my new job reported to security on arrival where they took my pictured and made my pass to gain entry to sections of the site and was met by the bloke I had the interview with. The first day was just a settling in day and being shown around the site more in depth so the day soon passed. The following day I go in a report to the same bloke to find what's to be done to which he replies right I'm putting you in the test cells ( engine dyno rooms ) I was shocked what I result that was so that is where I have been since tuesday and its right up my street and I'm enjoying every minute of it I would say its a dream job for me I would love to be able to tell you guys the things I have been doing and what I have been working with but I'm afraid I'm sworn to secrecy so I'm unable to go in depth on any of the things I have been working on but though I would give you guys an update

Re: yet another change in my life
I'm one of these people who is very opinionated and if I'm not happy with something I will open my mouth and say what I got to say please or offend. As for the mot station I was setting up and was just about ready to open it doors the business partner was trying to rip me of and because I'm younger he though I was nieve but I'm far from that and sussed what was going on and I simply froze all the accounts and any other thing to do with the business until we came to an agreement. As for changing jobs I only ever do it for a reason I would of still been at halfords had it not been for the regional manger try to push me to sell things to people they don't need and I don't believe in that what so ever so did not wish to be a part of it and not being big headed I have enough experience and qualifications in the motor trade and fabrication trade to simply move on I'm not a believer in working somewhere if you are not happy you have to enjoy your job and Lotus is a blessing its the kind of work I'm into and its interesting and I'm helping to evolve new technology and one day in the near future I will hopefully be able to say what I'm part of once its released. As a person with my skills which include qualified mechanic , mot tester , vehicle electronics and management systems , qualified welder and fabricator and a very experienced GRP lamanator (fibreglass) and all my skills suit the Lotus exactly and they was impressed with what I had to offer them and my versatility of doing more then one thing. Anyone on here who knows me and I have done things for them will know I have very high standards and that's how it will stay and the upside as well is my salary has nearly doubled from what I was on at halfords and I now only do a 4 and a half day week apposed to 6 days a week and that's a bonus as get more time to spend with my kids and family. One thing I always remember is you work to live not live to work and you may sell your body for so much and hour to a company but you don't sell your soul.Punx0r wrote:I reckon I've got pairs of pants that have seen you change job/business about five times now

Yep. Roll on Christmas day
I completely agree with what you said
You always seem to make a proper job of the various things you've done. You're just talking to someone who had the same job for 6 years
I completely agree with what you said

Re: yet another change in my life
Kudos to you Martin
I'm guessing the stuff you're playing around with is a bit more interesting than the 1.6 Ford derv and 4l industrial JCB derv they have in the test cells at my uni
So without forcing you to disclose anything you shouldn't, do you basically cobble together engines and make them go pop?

Re: yet another change in my life
Sweet, aren't they also working on a 3 cylinder hybrid engine to give a Jag XJ 60mpg? I seem to recall reading about that a while ago. Seems they've got plenty of useful little earners going on alongside their own cars. So when are you transferring to the F1 team?

will still be a while before that concept will be in everyday use to joe public due to the cost but will be the same as computeres when they first came out no one could afford one apart from the rich but as technology evolves and things are mass produced the prices come downPunx0r wrote:Looks pretty sweet.

Re: yet another change in my life
Little update
The last two days i have been in training on the dyno software and dyno operation very interesting stuff a lot different to a normal dyno you plonk a car into. Have been shown how to configure all the channels you want to monitor and how to do alterations its new ground for me as im now in the diesel section. Tomorrow im being thrown in at the deep end got 3 cells to run and keep an eye on so its a case of sink or swim
im looking forward to work tomorrow

Great stuff Martin. Glad to hear things have turned out for the good. Always good when you land a nice job which you enjoy and see a good future.
I've seen these engine cells in Fords at Dunton. Also all the other test areas, suspension etc. Amazing to see.
Just need the funds to get the equipment for my next project on the toy. The equipment from the Tesla!
