its not the number of visitors or traffic thats the problem, i have it on good authority that aspect of things is very active

more the participation of thread posting and content?

sign of the times
human nature
folk move on

we all have nothing interesting to say?

But more seriously, I've noticed all the car forums I use regularly seem to have lower post counts than they used to, plenty of people seem to visit, but don't post, so it's not just an RT thing.

There's probably multiple reasons really.

A diminishing number of Rover owners.

Facebook maybe? (don't use it myself)

Technically, it's mostly been covered before, many people can search for info?

Jebus Chripes Greg, I can just imagine you being called in to a managers office and being asked to explain why you've been looking at g0at videos and memes all day long!

People use Facebook pages instead of forums now I think, one thing I must say is that I don't post that many photos anymore as it takes longer to do than fb etc.....

I very rarely post myself these days. Main reason being, I'm no longer a rover owner.
Also (as pengy rightly said) a few of us on certain threads have a lack of knowledge to participate. I for one fall into this category. I know the basics but am no mechanic.
This aside I'm still on here on a daily basis and I know I will once again be a rover owner

I accept the points both of you make, but can i put it to you both that we are all now "lazy" and have become too used to the "convenience"

how ever, i also accept thats what society is like in these modern times, everything is wanted yesterday

I have no idea the groundwork or the limitations/implications of trying to integrate an easier way of uploading/displaying images

good points there keith and Dave

For once we are actually discussing this as adults

keep the thoughts and suggestions coming folks, who know, someone(s) might read it?

I dont know if there was a Fee for annual membership to help pay for more dedicated hosting and server space that we could do things like

garage
albums

a whole host of features that i have seen on other forums

Any one else with any ideas that they have seen elsewhere that may work?

Whatever people may think, one of the things I would do quickly if I win the lotto, is fund/help to set up a Midlands based R/T garage/workshop place for paying members to store one car each, and have fun stuff like our own dyno, Laser wheel alignment rig, and all the major garage equipment/Ramps tools and tyre changing/balancing facilities, for members to use for the benefit of keeping their now getting rare classic Rover's on the road.

I would say that there's no need to offer a bodyshop/paint facility as some members like myself have no idea how to do this sort of work, and no knowledge skills to make a damaged/rusty or dented car look good. If we had somewhere warm, clean and tidy to do mechanical work, upgrades and servicing, without laying on the wet cold roads outside our homes I reckon that would be very cool! We can always pay someone else to do bodywork stuff and make a car look good.

I have this silly idea of having a kind of R/T clubhouse with gaming facilities, large TV's pool tables and just a fun place to have periodic Rover enthusiasts car days, and our own dyno days, all done on the same set of rollers to end bitching and arguments etc.

In reality I agree with a lot said in above posts about people moving on and stuff, and that time/money and the option of having a car as a project/second vehicle is not viable for a lot of people currently. As said people do other stuff, a fair few members have possibly quite rightly turned their backs on cars and tuning recently and I don't blame them with running costs, and traffic and people having less time off to enjoy stuff like messing with cars etc.

I've been doing a few other projects this year (non car), will have to post up pics soon of two of them, and enjoyed it too.
having said that I need to now pull my finger out and put in a big parts order with Grant/GBE to get the Storm on the road and start enjoying driving again! :)

I think face book is one of the main reasons people dont use forums as much. its just quick and easy for people plus you can constantly keep up with whats posted cos your phone lets you know. Im not on face book and have no intention of joining. The forums are better in my opinion cos the information is always within reach and doesn't disappear to far down the order after a week or so. The local car club im with has a forum but only gets around one post every 3 months. They all use Facebook
