For things that don't fit into a category. i.e. non-motor related subjects.

Places and cars photography

Post by David-Ti »

Hi peeps,

Interested to know where people like to photograph their cars. Do you have any killer locations that make great backdrops for your motor?

Personally I've only ever used fairly plain generic locations but would like to find some impressive structures bridges and alike as backdrops to give the photos a little more wow factor.

I came across a place in london while searching for car photo locations, leake street or graffiti alley as its known which seems to be a good location with colourful and vibrant backdrops of graffiti art but perhaps a little too "hip" for my rover 600.lol

Places I have photographed in the past as said are fairly boring like multi story car parks and fields at show events. The norm basically, nothing outstanding.

eg.

I'm quite lucky in that I have a few places I can take some pics.

I took this one of my old Gti when I first got it at the barrage.

I took the Ti when I first got her as well

But then again the Asda underground car park furnished me with a comparison shot

In town where I live you have a lot of exquisite scenery you can use for car shots. Here you can get the idea what I am talking about, note that these are not my pictures, but you can see:

That's a cracking photo David 8)

I think its all about being creative and open minded for the best shots, you say leake street or graffiti alley aren't really suitable for the type of car you have, but I think you might be wrong as you've doubted it without even trying

I'm quite lucky where I live because I'm just on the boarders of where the urban areas start to cross over into the more rural areas, so I've got a number of choices for different background themes. Some of my favourites below although they aren't the best of quality for a number of reasons.

Don't really have much time anymore like I did with my 216 Coupe, so not really got much to show for the 220 Coupe yet but now I've got a DSLR, I'm hoping to start doing this again.

Anymore, keep'em coming. :)

Thanks James, you are probably right about leake st, may need to organise something for that one.

Kain, thanks for uploading the comparison shot that just made my decision to keep the front splitter on a whole lot easier.

Great shots Roverlike, beautiful location. :mrcool:

Abandoned buildings/ industrial areas can make decent backdrops, theres a building near me that would be perfect but theres no road access :( Have a look on a map for the viewpoint sign too, if theyve got a decent car park and its quiet enough it can turn out quite well

I really really like these photos of the red 420 in an underground carpark.

Fairly long exposure for decent light, low ISO for the quality really helps to bring out the colour depth.

Outside shots look a little bland in comparison.

edit... Shouldn't have posted these photos... miss that damn car :(

Hmm, wow factor... how about Yosemite Park?

or Sanata Monica Beach?

Or just use anywhere really, I've only been taking pictures for the last year or so, you don't really need an amazing place as a back ground, it's more to do with the light TBH.
