Rovertech the Film ......anyone?

For things that don't fit into a category. i.e. non-motor related subjects.

Ooh. Rovers + Airfield = Bloody good footage!

I know someone who owns an airfield in Cornwall, but that's probably a bit out of the way for most people.
considering the thing being atempted i wouldnt simply poo-poo it. Find out, obviuolsy it would need to be 1mile plus long, and flat tarmac with easy access etc, but find out, whats the harm?

I'll ask, and see what he says.

Has the added benefit of a pro recording studio on site too if we need to capture anything for commentary etc, heh. ;)

Oh Oh Ohhh airfield stuff sounds great!!

I reckon a "similar-spec" shootout would be cool. So you could have all the std/pretty much std cars together, all the medium breathed ons, then all the big powers.

With regard to the more community based side of things, perhaps people who aren't into the meet & greet side would still be willing to contribute in some way. e.g. george_chick - mine of fantastic info, tricks and tips but isn't into meeting etc. Maybe those folks would be willing to do a little writeup/script which could be 'acted' out by a mystery shadowed person, like on crimewatch etc where the person doesn't want to be identified... could be informative and amusing ;)

How about some tutorials and masterclasses too?
91 Citroen BX GTi 8v - bought March 13
95 Ford Mondeo 1.8i Ghia - March 11 - March 13 - scrapped
98 620 SLDi - July 08 - March 11
97 420 GSDi - dumped in France
94 420 GSi Turbo, 235bhp. Dec 03 - May 08, still missed
93 214 Si - June 02 - Feb 04

george_chick you only see his outline, LOL, we could build it up like no ones ever seen him - he's like the stig - only he's into technical stuff about Rovers :D LOL, that is a superb idea and IMO would be very funny, ok so it's not true but we could do it in a humerous way which would work very well
i think. :) good one LEO 8)

oh yes similar shoot out spec for sure.

I'm well up for this, my car is about to go it for it's little bit of "modding" by Grant (or at least it is hopefully) woudl almost be a start to finish effort fo ryou to film, all it's got now is brakes and suspension. It's prrity much gonna have a total engine and drivetrain rebuild. I'm sure Grant woudln't mind you nosing about while he works his magic.
As long as you asked him of course :D

I've actually heard that on some top gear shoots they use a steadicam operator straped into the back of a fast estate car with the boot open!

Actually, i wouldnt mind being in the back of an estate- i could use my climbing gear to strap me down in the back. Could make an awesome shot- 2 cars head to head on an airstrip, with a fast estate filming them from the front! I'm getting all top geary now.... where are my half grad filters

I saw a tv prog where the police pulled an 800 hatchback over because there was a cameraman sitting in the back with the hatch open. I guess it's a no-no on public roads. Shame really.

It's just been on Police, camera, action. I'll put it on the comp and do an mpg of it. It only lasts 25 or so seconds but the driver got a £40 fine and three points. Don't know if it was for the hatch thing or the fact he was holding up the traffic. Btw, it was a BBC cameraman too. Think they'd know better.

Righ. I've jsut got off the phonwe with Flight Lieutenant G. Street. Collerne Airfield, situated 5 miles away from Castle coombe, is an open venue, and activly supports motorsport use of the airfield. :D

Basically we are able to use the airfield for an event. All ive got to do is outline what we are going to be doing. I explained on the phone and he seems very happy about having us there. Jobs a goodun! :D

The only thing ive got to establish is how much its likly to cost. Being an active RAF sirte, the6y need to have staff there to oversee the event to make sure we dont damage stuff etc. But i will find that out when i hear back from the MOD property people.

Top Man lets hope it's goer 8)

so people, who wants to take part in this air field shootout? lets start getting an idea of numbers :- first come first served, But for the film to be a goodun obviously we need some exotic rovers there too i don't want to sound elitest but (no flames please ) too make it exciting to watch for the audience i feel we need FAST cars too. It's open to debate if any one feels strongly etc.

one question can anyone give me a contact for Andy the guy with a 600 odd hp Rover ? cheers PM if you have ta!

if you want to come and watch it's no problem - to cheer on your favourite car etc, just let us know :)

well from the sounds of it, it will take roughly a month for it to go through property before i'll even know, then another month or 2 to organie equipent, staff and the actual event. Not for a while yet, basically. :)
