urgent advice requested - please?

Post by foshizzle »

a mate of mine has a rover cabriolet which he intends to scrap tonight due to some problems he is having with it.

i was going to offer him some cash for it however im not sure how much work or money are involved in the repairs. can someone give me some advice before i jump in>?

needs a new roof/roof repair (not electric) has a long rip above the drivers seat

back engine mount gone leading to blowing manifold and hard to get in gear at times.

im guessing the engine mount is just a swap. the gear linkage may have become bent but from wht ive seen in tseries' theyre just a bolt on-off job.

manifold im happy with.

what i reckons happened is the engines twisting on the o/s and n/s mounts and pulled the gear linkage a bit. could this cause any more unseen problems?

thanks
PJ.

Probably not, no.

I don't think the engine mounts are available new, so you'd have to hunt for a good used one.

Replacement roof is probably going to be around £300.

you can get the roofs for £100 if you look about but it'll be costly having it fitted :(

If its a late Honda engined job it will have the lambda censor which can make it fairly economical if its not being thrashed and a good replacement engine for a SOHC coupe.

Think ill give it a miss. If anyones interested its a prefacelift nightfire 214 convertable, think hes after about £150 for it. Its on pistonheads at £500 but the mount went while it was for sale.

Works pretty minimal besides the roof. 5 month mot. In Ayr.

Why not do the innertube trick on the mount? If its the one I'm thinking of, the dog bone one into the bulkhead?
