Thieving scroats!
Just had a nice awakening at 1.20am this morning by the sound of my toad alarm wailing, looked out the window to see some little logger head trying to break into my car. He's knackered the drivers side lock and left a nice scratch on the door, i don't know what he thought he'd achieve as it got a disk lock on aswel, what a teacup! i've made the police aware and im just hoping he comes back to finish the job off as i've got a little supprise waiting for him

Re: Thieving scroats!
yeah true i dont know what they were gonna achieve though, obviously inexperienced, its alarmed, imobilised, and disk locked, they certainly aint getting that off in a hurry.
how would you go about changing the lock barrel in a coupe is it an easy job?

Re: Thieving scroats!
Ah bloody hell Dickie, that sucks!
It takes a special type of person to try breaking into a car with a visible disk lock. I take it they were still there while the alarm was going off?
Changing the door lock isn't too bad. Two bolts holding the handle assembly in and then a few rods connected to the door catch/solenoid.

Weld two big strips to the disk lock and put a hard core padlock in on the front of it , then add a sticker saying "get that off then"

Re: Thieving scroats!
those hand brake looks come with a collar that locks to the gear stick so taking the gear knob off wont help.

Re: Thieving scroats!
Damn dickie ...
must be the same retards that tried taking Emma's corsa with the disklock clearly visible...
on hers they bent the steering wheel but luckily didn't damage the column itself.
Kiddie car thieves must be a whole lot more stupid these days, I blame the education system

good idea brad with the chain, my mum did a similar thing with her astra years ago and that never dissapeared, the astra was my estates car of choice for joy riding
cheers big P but just have to check something;
Does a N reg rover 216 share the same lock as a L reg 220 turbo, as mine is proving to be more of a pain to extract????????
Shen it must be, the police said that they think they know who it is as 25 cars from the Irish centre have been robbed and they have been see on camera but the pics aint too great, the officer said car crime has increased 10 fold on this estate and there gonna put a few police trap vehicles around the area and increased patrol's, it quietened right down now its going nuts again!! i wanna move its a dump anyhow

Re: Thieving scroats!
i bought of of those today pantxxxxx once you attach the collar you cant unscrew the gear leaver so doesnt seem that bad really, if i was a theif and i saw a car with a disk lock and a hand brake lock i'd think fooook that i'd be there till next week
I know what you mean david i was stubling round for clothes half asleep tripping over everything time i got the house alarm off and opened the security gate he was long gone, would have been faster to jump out the window and land on him
....that would of caused him some damage
does anybody know if the barrel locks are the same across the 200 coupe range? (sorry if this is a dumb question)

Re: Thieving scroats!
Rich, are you just swapping the lock or the whole handle assembly?
I'm not even sure why he went for the door lock. I unlocked my Coupe with a metal rod in about 5 seconds

so i reckon hes changin the whole handle assembly mate

Re: Thieving scroats!
indeedy..with only a bit of rubber at the top of the pillarless doors it's easy enough to slide something down to lift the lock.agw_01 wrote:Rich, are you just swapping the lock or the whole handle assembly?

Yeah the whole lot matey, hehehehehe these cars are shocking for security, you have to buy an array of aftermarket products just to make it 'ok' rover build quality FTWagw_01 wrote:Rich, are you just swapping the lock or the whole handle assembly?

Re: Thieving scroats!
Yeah, I didn't know 'keyless entry' came on the options list from Rover
Dickie, that's fine. It'll match your wheels.

Re: Thieving scroats!
i did toy with that idea for five minutes, then i thought how do i get in if something goes wrong.... well the answer to that would be to slip something down the window, defeating the whole premise of de-locking anywayagw_01 wrote:Yeah, I didn't know 'keyless entry' came on the options list from Rover

Re: Thieving scroats!
yeah I agree with that mate..always better to keep the handle colour coded TBHDickie adams wrote:oh BTW im going for a new style nightfire red with a black handle its gonna look absolute crap..especially if I later change my alloys

Re: Thieving scroats!
it would be nice if i could, but its been chewed up by a screwdriver, looks like he tried to pop the lock out, TBH the bottom of the door is a little rusty and now has a nice 4 inch stratch near the lock where he must have slipped. New nightfire door FTW me thinksCableguy wrote:Just swap the barrel , its only an R clip.
