Some people are predicting an Al Qaeda attack during the opening game. It's an obvious target if you think about it.

That's not the opening fixture though. :P

I would have felt happier with Walcott going, especially as they have taken one trick pony Wright-Phillips (who doesn't get the game time Johnson does for his club who was also sent home?).

Mark my words it is either England OR the USA and one other coming out of the group, NOT both as expected. Algeria and Slovenia will pack 11 men behind the ball against England and the USA, going for a draw, then go all out against each other to go though on 5 points. I expect Group C to be topped by England, USA in third.

why? walcott is completely useless, he has pace... but can he get a final ball in the box? can he hell. every cross goes in the stand. He has shown he can score... against useless opposition which is pointless in a world cup.

Tbh, with the way England play... USA will be top and England may scrape through in second and then go out in the quarters after some sort of goalkeeping calamity.

Walcott should have gone imo, as an impact sub if nothing else, he would have been one of, if not the fastest winger in SA. Aaron lennon and SWP are both sh*t at crossing too.

Bent should have gone instead of heskey, capello is always saying that he is going to pick the best, most in-form players, well Bent has scored more than anyone else except for Rooney and Heskey cant even get in the Villa team, fair enough hes a good team player, but so is crouch.

Forgetting about past world cups and how we`ve been playing, our squad IS good enough to at least reach the semi`s,

We will win all 3 of our group games and the US will join us

Chances are as good as any.. you have to win 7 games to win the trophy.

Depends how they are on the day doesn't it....

They have got great playedrs on paper, but they have to gel well as a team and play together, something which they have failed at many times in the past. They were dire in the last two warm up games so they have to get their finger out. I felt either Walcott or Bent should of been selected for sure, even if they act like a super sub for the team. I think Joe Cole will shine at the world cup.

England have one of the best football managers in the world which inspires a flickering of hope when combined with my questioning patriotism.
Unfortunately, England only have one world class player and he has a suspect temperament :(

It hasn't stopped me buying the Royal Mint, 'Good Luck England' coin for my young nephew though

Agreed, but thats whats different from the past, now we are playing sh*t and winning, mexico were all over us for large parts of the game and we still won comfortabley.

tbh, this right hand wing debate just makes me wish beckham was fit... who gives a crap about pace when beckham will put the ball straight to your foot/head from anywhere?

yes hes older but pace and the ability to beat an opponent were never his strongpoint.

bent did deserve to go in place of heskey, hes banged a lot of goals in this season. heskey cant hit a barn door let along score but tbh he never gets picked for that, he gets picked to cause a nuisance with his presence.

Hopefully they'll get knocked out sharpish and people will stop talking about it.

Football sucks. It's boring to watch, I hate playing team games and it just breeds loutishness.

However it'll soon be Wimbledon. That I like to watch.

England have as good a chance as they have in any recent World Cup/European Championship, ie they have as good a team as any that will make the last 4, but will probably go out at the last 8.

Bookies, I think, still have them 3rd favourite behind Spain and Brazil. This is the first time the bookies have installed a favourite (Spain) who have never won the World Cup. (I know, except the 1930 World Cup!!!)

Honestly, I don't see that. England being a better punt than Italy, Germany, Portugal, Argentina, or anyone else less 'fancied' by William Hill, I mean.

They'll get through their group. They won't walk it like they think, though. I've a feeling they'll lose to the USA. In the last 16, who knows? There will be at least 8 better teams than England in the last 16. England will have to at the absolute top of their game to go further than that.

Steven Gerrard is the obvious next choice as captain. Am I not right in saying that when the one who's married to one of the Spice Girls was relieved of the captaincy that it was John Terry and Steven Gerrard who were the candidates to replace him? If so, why wasn't Gerrard the first choice after John Terry pissed on his chips?

Emile Heskey: Wow. You've got to feel for lads like Walcott, being passed over for a player like Heskey. I'm a Celtic supporter, and when we had Chris Sutton we used to marvel at the fact that big Chris could not get into an England squad that Emile Heskey was in.

So, I reckon that's England's chances: Making the quarter finals would be a huge achievement. I don't think they can win it.

It's not because I'm Scottish. Well, maybe a wee bit.
I should've quit you a long long time ago. then I wouldn't be here with all my trouble, down on this killing floor

Noonan, when it passed from Terry (if he had simply been banging some tart he should have stayed Captain but he was rodding his team mates ex, who just happened to also be the Mother of his kids!) Ferdinand was the vice Captain. Then it was Ferdinand as Captain and Gerrard as vice. I hope Lampard is now the vice?

I disagree that the squad is as strong as in previous years. This year, A Cole, Terry, Gerrard, Lampard and Rooney are the only ones in the squad that would say are genuiney World class. The squad has been stronger in the past, even fairly recently - Ferdinand, Owen, Beckham etc.
