Why do you Tune your Rover?

Post by vince1986 »

Was just sitting here thinking why do you all Tune your car?

I will openly admit that i Tune my car because i want it to show up all the lads round my area at the local Car Cruise's (McDonalds-ASDA), Car shows and beat them in small Races in Ind Estats.i know you will all hate me for that But i dont care least im honest. Its so good to see there faces when you beat them in A Big old Rover 600, or a Little old Metro.

i also do it because i want to take it POD or on Track days, Rolling road ect ...

Thing is im a Chav at hart and love it! I dont want to get old so i cling onto the fact that i can still Cruise, we got 40 year old blokes who come down in R34 Skyline's, But live in nice areas and drive nice day cars but just enjoy Modding there car and showing it off at every cahnce they get dont matter if its Mcdonnalds or oxfam its just a place to show off. only thing i really hate is tw*ts doing Burn outs ect its them that give it all a bad rep.

Any way why do you mod yours??

why does a dog lick it's own balls?

cos it can

For me I love the 200 coupe...got alot of chatracter is different and you don't see them everyday..or even once a month near me...so I'd rather tune that than buy some off the peg common crap :D
Which is a little bit why I'm kind of not with the mgzr thing...although I do enjoy the look on peoples faces when they see the rover badge sailing off into the distance and destroying all their myth built ideas of the old man's slowver

as to the original question... I've never really been big on engine tuning.

When I've spent a lot of money on cars its always been on suspension and handling mods rather than power. Very rarely do you get to use top end or high speed, but you can throw a car around b-roads all night long and not even break the speed limit.

A few simple mods like freeing up the engines breathing, proven de-restricting mods and the like, sure. To get the best out of a standard engine, but never really seen the point of 'big power' in a road car.

You can spend a fortune getting a handful of extra bhp out of a car so it does 0-60 a bit quicker and tops out at 160, but half that will build a handling car that would be an equal match, or better, to most high power beastys on track or in the twisties.

Its all a matter of taste and opinion though I guess.

When it comes to visual modding... well, I do it to make cars I like the look of. I think its pretty evident I dont do it to please the masses

Why do anything?

For me it started off with a few small improvements here and there and grew. There comes a turning point when you realise you either have to fully commit or leave well alone.

The thing that has kept me going is that I'm often being told that it couldn't be done, or shouldn't be done - and that just serves as a challenge.

There is something indefinable about driving a car which you have put your heart and sould into, to meet your exact requirements. When you just know everything is "right". That is a good feeling.
vince1986 wrote:this is why i was asking the question, because there are alot of people on here running some silly BHP and seems like you never here of them ever useing it :?
A lot of people have said (and I agree) the more power you have, the slower you will drive.

It isn't about the using, it is about the having. To have created something that can, doesn't mean you have to prove it all the time. Also a powerful car can be a lot of fun to drive without being flat out all the time.

If you look at it with any sort of financial or logical view it is a waste of time and money, but then that applies to pretty much everything.

i can see what your saying, but at the same time if you aint ever going to use it what is the point.

its like buying a Vayon if you know you have 1000BHP under your foot and choose never to use it but knowing you could if you needed to why spend a million pound buying it? doing 253mph is the cars Party peace.

i want to feel where my money blood and guts tears has been spent.

I like to make the car as good as it can be within my budget ,i like upsetting people with cars worth 25 grand more expensive than mine occasionally and vice a versa . Had a bloke in a sapphire cosworth tell me the other day my car made his lovely cosworth look rubbish ,that's why.

Congratulations of missing half of the joy of supercar ownership - the pose factor. Knowing everyone respects the car and envies you. How often does someone 'envy' your 10 year old Rover?

Personally I wish i'd never bothered going down the current route with my Rover.

but with the rest it comes down to the fact that u do one thing then in the process find something else that needs changing ... its a never ending story really .

like the suspension. replace that then see that all the bushes are knackered. so u have the urge to replace that . because you know its there and you know it needs doing ....

Just to add to this...how many people do we reckon can use the full power of a Veyron?

60-100mph in less than a second...I think that would take some getting used to for alot of people...I think for some people they will never be able to use the full power of the car.

I never use to be in to cars and stuff like that, but when my brother built me my first car a mini :D I enjoyed driving it and ragging it about. But the fact of the matter was it was a 20+ year old car so it broke etc so I thought I better learn how to repair it or bodge it if I got stuck in the middle of know where, and it just esculated from their.

Now I own a under dog Rover my dad hated it "why did you buy a car you carnt get bits for" but I just love the look on everyone's face when you take off coz everyone thinks the only engine rover did was the K-series and as soon as you try to put your foot down it would spit its head gasket out :D My mate wanted to race me in his ST, that he carnt affored to run or insure so I took him for a ride out in it and he $hit himself how quick it was, and I just like putting exspensive cars to shame am hoping to be as quick or quicker than another on of my mates new Focus RS :drive:

Because i cant afford to buy anything else, Look at the other fast cars around, and how much they cost! Scoobys, evos, 200sx's etc.. all really expensive even for a nail, Plus all the tuning bits are expensive..

And i'm a sucker for the under-dog..

I still say you cannot go faster for less than a Rover..

A more powerful car can be more relaxing to drive because you don't need to change down, for example, everytime you come to a small incline! Even in a standard 620ti it's the mid range which really makes it appealling - the exact opposite of the drive-it-like-you've-stolen approach a vtec needs to move along briskly.

But everyone knows what a Veyron can do; if I had that much money to waste on a car IO porbably wouldn't care what people thought!

I like being able to outrun scoobies, evo's and type-r's. Nothing more enjoyable in a 'cheap' car. Pound for pound you can't beat a well sorted rover.

As above, all about the underdog really.

Also, it's nice to hand over to owners of supposedly better cars, their a$$ on a plate from a 10 year old Rover!!
Especially a Rover Diesel!!!

Got my first R25 derv, through a car finance company, and was what they chose to be within my budget (others were a daewoo!! ). As soon as i saw the rover, i really liked it. It looked pretty good, and drove nicely, so bought it.

I then couldn't afford the finance, but had already modded it. Went out and bought another R25 derv privately, and swapped the mods etc over between the 2. Once everything was swapped over, handed the car back to the finance company.

My car has been superbly reliable, and hasn't broken down due to something breaking on its own accord. Ok, it has broken down to what i have done to it, but not for any other reasons!!

Cheers

Yup I do

can always remember wanting a coupe for the day i saw a guy washing one being about 10 at the time said cool car and asked what it was and i was hooked always liked the look of most of them and it just happen to be that they can be made fast and cheap to mod so win win in my eyes

Now i mod mine because i like the way other people always look down on it but knowing i've got the power to beat them manily chav's with 106 saxo's etc... and because i what my car to look a diffrent from alll the other rovers but still most of the parts on my car are from other rovers

i remember and PPC in the park 09 when nick (420gsitlover) was on track some kid saying what the fu*ks that doing  Well he didn't keep talking once it dumped and over took a few cars

I will always have a rover even if a won the lottery and own a Veyron now could you see that pic on here a Veyron parked next to my cabby

I do!

I paid more than £3,000 for my first 620ti and £3,950 for my 620i! But when I got the first ti, that price still offered amazing value for money when compared with similar sized cars with similar performance. I also think the ti has far, far more character than a lot of modern mid-sized saloons - and I have drivena whole whost of them thanks to work.

We also had had Rovers and BL/Austin Rover cars in the family for years - my grandparents had a Mini new in 1959 for example! And had Austins before that!

Yes, although I dont like all rovers for styling I think the 600's when lowered adequately and fitted with decent wheels are one of the best and tidiest looking saloon cars around for me..

It then became a platform for me to work with, I'm not trying to prove anything to anyone. Its just a car I like that I can have fun with, building and hopefully, fingers crossed driving.lol
