OK, ive got £1000 to buy a reasonably half decent car. I want something thats got four doors preferably, but also something a bit different.
Ive been looking at 190E Mercs, Mk4 Golfs, Mk2 Golf GTis, and ZTs although it seems a ZT is out of the £1k market for now.
Can anyone offer some suggestions?
Must be:
MOTd for at least 6 months
Engine size no more than 2.0
No preference on transmission
No preference on fuel
Something a bit different
Im pig sick of looking at Vectras and Saxos on Gumtree. Just wondered if anyone could come up with anything i hadnt noticed. Id love a nice big luxobarge like a 5 series or something, just dont fancy the engine sizes

Saab 9-5? You can very nearly get an Aero for £1000 these days.
Alfa 156? Bit biased, but they really are pretty nifty and surprisingly well built, certainly more solid than my BMW was!
Decent ZTs do turn up for less than £1000 surprisingly often if you're not in a hurry - went and saw a lovely green 1.8T which was up for £800 locally a couple of months ago for a friend, was absolutely minty and not a single fault.

Ive actually seen (last night) a black Freelander, 1.8k, HG done, £1k of receipts in the last 6 month, 12 month MOT and 6 month tax £850.
Its tidy, few minor interior faults and a leaky boot. Going to see it today.

Omegas are amazing value for money. Really nice well specced cars, a mate has had two and both were lovely.

I agree mate, for little money your getting a lot of car. My one even has electric seats, you dont get many cars with this spec for a grand elsewhere.

Picked up a Freelander 1.8k, 97k, Years MOT, taxed until 31st Dec, just had a grand spent on it in the last few months. Guy lost his job and couldnt afford to run it. Black, few minor niggles (leaky servo hose, drivers central locking doesnt lock) aside from that its a quite high spec model. Happy
Just need to probably do the HG in order to feel confident about it haha

You'd struggle getting a good Mk2 GTI for a grand unfortunately. Although they're nowhere near as modern feeling as all the other cars suggested here, they're cheap as to maintain

Ive always fancied a mk2 gti and a few people i know have said theyre the worst cars they have ever driven. Put me off a bit. Think worst car ive ever driven was an xr3i.

Very nice, very nice indeed!
I've never liked Freelanders, but that one is almost good enough to make me want one
