Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
An alternative idea is a power run on a dyno and some grub.
Any votes for that?

I would be out if that were the case, for me the fun is from the driving and admiring not who's got the most horses and more people can have fun at the same time on a track

So, are we having a track day?!?!
We're all set up to bring a ti and the ZS! Not sure how a 75 would be on the track though -the 2.5 might surprise a few people!

Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
trackday sounds great fun, my last one was.
Really really love the idea of a gumball style rally tho, picking up members along the way, local beauty spots etc, pub lunch at the end.
could even have one convoy start in scotland, one in essex and meet in the middle, then go for a 50 or so mile drive together, that way we all get to join in and converge somewhere for dinner etc??

Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
if we had a track day with some of the other clubs why not request a mobile rolling road to attend then we get the best of both we only have to invite the rolling rd with no commitment if we said that there would be lets say 200 cars (might be a little optomistic) but the potential is there for them to have a working weekend i'm sure that if the rolling rd is there some of us would give it a go as well as the track. regards ricky

I feel the more simple the affair is, the more likely we are to pull it off. Really need to nail this soon though as its approaching Feb.

I'll be there location regardless any excuse for a road tripBazR wrote:Next year we hope to arrange a meeting in the most central point of the UK for all national RT members.
For the future survival of the Forum and the Marque, I personaly think it is important that we 'rally the troops' once in a while and show our support, for MG, Rover and Rovertech itself.
Location and dates are open for discussion, but I must stress that this will be an orgianised meeting and not just a handful of members stuck in a carpark while it rains.
I will be attending myself, so Im hoping not to travel all the way over to be faced with only a handful of cars to gawp at.
We would like to keep this thread clear for informative posts and any suggestions you may have can be sent to me via PM. Once a location is decided, we can get the date(s) sorted. I realise its still 2009, but I've seen many a time where these things have been left to the last minute and fail.
We really need to pull this off and establish ourselves as an active, friendly and serious forum.
Thankyou for taking the time to read and your support is appreciated.

Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
Mallory park or Oulton park seem central.
Not sure what there like to get booked on though.
There's always Trax at Silverstone later on during the year. Where you can hire a Rover stand or something.

Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
a couple of years ago a chap in wales hired an mod airstrip for two days (including overnight camping on site) for a drift weekend.
It worked out to about £3000 total cost including liability insurance.
Sounds a lot... right?
for over 8 miles of fresh tarmac, some awesome twisty access roads and about 8 solid hours on track every day, for EVERY driver... the £100 each it cost was one of the best I've ever spent, and it is still renowned by those that went as the best drift practice event held in britain so far.
It was not a professional event, the amenities were sparce (burger van and a portaloo pretty much), the track was marked out with tyres and tape... but thats what made it so good, it was self regulated, and because there were no f*ckwits there, it was an incredible weekend.
Sadly the MOD/insurers decided that as drifting wasnt msa approved it wasnt a 'motorsport' so wouldnt allow any more.
If something similar were organised, I would happily pay double that if need be and travel anywhere in the uk to go.
much like the 'sunday streetwars' events at smeatharpe airfield in somerset, they started out on google maps, looking on satellite images for airfields and contacting the owners.
ps, people saw the potential of the drift weekend, and paid up front before it was confirmed. So his outlay was minimal, as that is obviously going to be a big concern. That also limited the numbers going to those with the balls to front it up, which improved it vastly by not letting it be overcrowded, and only people who wanted to enjoy the weekend to its full extent went. No chavs, revvin kevins, boy racers, etc...

Sumthing like munky described would be good
we should really get a place, get a price and see how many people would want to go..
im guessin centre of england would be best place, i dont mind the drive down 6 hours if it was worth while

Are there any sites between Nottingham and York/Leeds?
As well as being really good for us to attend, it would be pretty central for the far south and Scotland.
