Rovertech 2010 National Meeting

Post by BazR »

Next year we hope to arrange a meeting in the most central point of the UK for all national RT members.
For the future survival of the Forum and the Marque, I personaly think it is important that we 'rally the troops' once in a while and show our support, for MG, Rover and Rovertech itself.

Location and dates are open for discussion, but I must stress that this will be an orgianised meeting and not just a handful of members stuck in a carpark while it rains.

I will be attending myself, so Im hoping not to travel all the way over to be faced with only a handful of cars to gawp at.

We would like to keep this thread clear for informative posts and any suggestions you may have can be sent to me via PM. Once a location is decided, we can get the date(s) sorted. I realise its still 2009, but I've seen many a time where these things have been left to the last minute and fail.

We really need to pull this off and establish ourselves as an active, friendly and serious forum.

Thankyou for taking the time to read and your support is appreciated.

Pride of Longbridge is a nightmare trying to met up with the rest of your car club. The meeting point beforehand was Hopwood services (iirc) and there physically wasn't enough space for all the cars, let alone parking up with your club. They had to shoehorn people into whatever space was there, meaning that some people couldn't leave until the rest of the car park had emptied!

If you met at another services maybe a then convoyed it could work, but I still think people would get lost en route.

After the Longbridge rally though...?

Just an idea. What about a day at Silverstone (TRAX or something), Bruntingthorpe or something. Where those that want to race can and others just chill out or be a passenger. Barbie or something. I don't mind helping with the cooking! :D

BTW. Not sure if I'll be allowed with the toy. Still has quite a few Rover parts including the gearbox, heater (day could be coldish!), etc. Still have Rover in my heart. But would understand if I needed to come for a ride in someone elses Rover.

Psh.

Nonsense. I'm sure there's a fair few people on here as interested in having a look at that thing as I am, dude.

Count me in, providing there's no more dramatic explosion type events featuring the Vitty before then.

PSH??? Did a search and got Porn Star Hair! :D

Donny completley forgot about that. And central. Having a think. Track day type events may be a nightmare to organise.

That's why I thought Trax. Best of both worlds is it not. Keep meaning to go but never got there.

The problem with combining it with another large event is just that! you've got 300000 other cars trying to get on the track so if like you and me want to give the cars a good thrashing you've only got 15mins to do it

Looking at it that way, we would be relying on Trax or PoL to attract everyone.

If we were to hold a national meet with only us attending, can we be sure good enough numbers will attend? Its alright a handful saying they will come, but ideally we need a couple of dozen at the very least.
How many from the likes of Plymouth and such will attend a meeting so far North? and how many from Scotland will fancy going so far South :? These are goign to be the teething problems I think. Obviously things change and plans have to be altered, but surely we can generate a good enough turn out.

I thnk where ever you have it, it will be too far for some people to attend. Manchester I would call central ish in the country. But would think the majority of Rover's would be in the midlands from the locations of people on here. The places above are central ish in the country.

RAF base seems a good idea to meet.

It's far for us in Essex as well! :D

cornwall and the south coast as well. Where ever it is, it's going to be far for some people.

Only other way is local meets. But that defeats the object of everybody getting together for a national meet.

Rock and a hard place comes to mind.

Indeed, its gonna be hard to plan but I think we can do it.

The idea is to have a proper meeting and then some prize giving in regards to best car on the day etc. If we can work it into a trackday or a whole weekend, all the better.

It is possible to book a track as a venue and have exclusive use of the track, but these cost thousands and thousands of pounds!

Something like a dis-used airfield would be good, most airfields I've been to tend to have a perimeter road, the one at my Dads gliding club being quite fun to drive round when the limit of 15mph isn't applicable

Perhaps join with the MGM group for their annual show. They have just circulated a questionnaire to members etc asking for where and how to hold the event next year as this one was a bit of a disappointment. However in previous years they have arranged a really good show.

I've suggested to them in my responses getting other clubs/forums on board to help arrange the show with a knock on benefit for all of increasing the number of attendees. I usually help out from the rover200 + 400 club point of view as I'm also a member of the MGM group.

They are currently asking for thoughts on what people want so it could be an opportunity to gather the rover masses in one place outside of the Pride of Longbridge event (which is also excellent and I'm sure the organisers would jump at the chance of any help organising the event).

I'm not sure how receptive MGM are to being approached but they really do need some assistance with the organisation and setting up of the show in my opinion so it would seem a sensible place to start.

Whaddya reckon?

i was going to say that, there are a few small tracks up this way, their was a RS day at Kames a few months ago, couldnt have been that much i dont think, if there are enough cars to fill the normal amount of spots taken on an open day.

Not very central to everybody. But North Weald airfield in Essex do the 1/4 mile runs and have meets. VW meets etc.

May be something like that.

http://www.northwealdairfield.org/Campa ... vents.html

Not sure of prices. But know it's a bout £10 for the day. And run as much as you want up the strip.

Has and old aircraft museum and plenty of areas for a barbie.

The only restriction. 200 cars max to book and go up the runway.
