Uffington White Horse 5th Meet. Saturday 25th Sept, 12:30.

Post by Vard66 »

I've got rid of the 5 page rambling thread on this; there was precious little that was of any use or interest in there anyway, so I thought I'd remake this afresh, with a copy of the details used in the last Uff threads pasted in.

*CTRL + C..... CTRL + V*

For those who didn't attend any of the others, the general plan is thus;

Members meet at 12:30 in the Uffington White Horse car park;

Image

<< Hyperlink to Google Maps page - click on the image above, or this text. >>

"Its the road called Knighton Hill that comes off the road marked in yellow, at the crossroads by Compton Beauchamp, and its sign posted around there too."

For Joe and Paul's sake; the postcode for the White Horse Pub - SN7 7QL, prank me when you get there, and we'll nip down and lead you back up to the Car Park we'll all be in.

We spend probably not less than half an hour doing introductions - (this normally gets silently delegated to me...), nosing about people's cars, showing off - (though not in an ignorant 'let's-see-who-can-do-the-longest-wheel-spin-or-rev-the-loudest-and-annoy-people' way, please folks, let's be civil and keep our dignity), having a bit of a chin-wag, and generally waiting to make sure anyone who is attending arrives O.K, and just to get to know each other a little bit.

From there, we take a bit of a convoy drive down through some neighbouring villages - I lead the first time with Stef riding shotgun, but this time I think I'll leave the route entirely up to those local, i.e: Stefan (stefaclese) and Andy (Mitus).

The drive finished in the car park of an Abingdon pub called The Nag's Head the last three times; and myself, I was perfectly happy with the service there, despite us simply turning up, they let us drag tables together to accommodate us as a group, and sorted us with food on a Saturday lunchtime without any grumbling.
Rich and myself will be looking into other venues also, in case the Nag's have lots on.

From there, folks can chose to come in for a pub meal, or just head off, if they need to or just feel like it.

Latest Attendance Register

That I can tell, this is the list. Please feel free to copy/paste and ammend, if you're up with a question mark by your name, it's because you've not definitely confirmed.

Perhaps the original thread where I had a map to the actual White Horse carpark shouldn't have been so hastily removed?

You did?

I went through the whole thing yesterday and didn't see one.

There was however one in the previous meet threads, which I've copied into here.

^_^

And Rich, I thought about it yesterday, and then shrugged and went to bed as it was half three.

I'll put one in announcements now.

Well seeing as you deleted everything I can't show you, but I put a link in there with a map to the carpark from Plymouth for Joe and Pauls benefit, which also highlighted the turn off from the B road that leads to the correct carpark, with the carpark itself highlighted as the destination.

I can see that you copied that map from a previous thread, as this map is also wrong.

As long as you can make it to the B4507 from the Swindon East junction on the M4 via a mile of the Swindon ring road, you'll be fine. Just keep your eyes peeled for brown signs with White Horse/Weylands Smithy parking labelled on them.

Bump!

As Stef has just pointed out to me, it's a prudent idea for me to pop my number up on this now, lest anyone needs to get hold of me on Sat morning.

The number, lest anyone needs it, because they're lost, or need to let me know they've broken down (just being realistic here, folks!) or what have you, is

07791 647 477

Two days to go, looking forward to this now.

you used the same outwardly pretentious word/phrase twice in the space of two sentences... so I was asking if you have just acquired some 'word-a-day' toilet roll... google it. :roll:

ps, I have now put a pin in google maps in the actual car park for the satnav to take me to, since the postcode you gave us would take me to a completely different place :annoy:

Meh, it's the right word, I didn't bother to stop to think whether it was pretentious or not, sue me.

As for that, I gave you the postcode for the pub, because you bitched about not having one, which the car park we're going to does not.

As a general rule I don't bother with google maps, so don't really know how to use it properly. Thus I relied on what Stef had given me before, which was wrong, apparently.
