I've been at all of these so far in the beemer. sadly its off road now but i'm interested to see how the ti matches up to it so i'm there with bells on.
some advice though- get there early and get thru scrutineering asap because after an hour or two the queue for it is absurd.
I'll be trying to resist the urge to wind the bleed valve all the way out for a run or two with nothing but blind hope stopping my engine melting... aa card firmly in hand

Yeah seen your bm every time, its the cool as matt black one aint it

Not much lol.
they make sure there's nothing loose in the engine bay like the battery etc, check seatbelts, make sure there's nothing loose in the cabin and boot that would do damage if you crash, etc.
I always have a mate with me as a 'pit car' where i dump all my tools (well worth taking a basic took kit, just in case... and in case you get the urge to strip out a seat, bonnet etc to gain a 10th of a second or two), spare wheel etc etc in. But tbh I've also just left stuff (including a set of borbet a's once) at the side of the pit area unattended all day and never lost anything.
basically, if your car would pass an mot, it will pass scrutineering.
But take a handful of cable ties just in case
Might be worth all meeting up and setting up a kinda rovertech 'pit' i normally meet a few ppl at exeter moto services at half 8 in the morning to convoy there. 9am will guarantee no queue, 10am will see you queue for over an hour.

Yup, thats me... often seen being bollocked by the organisers for drifting the road back to the pits and doing donuts in the pit area.

i live in bridgy , so will have to meet you just of the motorway junc , which junc do you get of on . taunton or wellington

I come from plymouth so i turn off the m5 at exeter... no idea of junction number lol. probably easier to just meet there?
I always make sure i get there by 9 ish. I know the track's not open til 11 but it skips queues and gives you plenty of time for last minute prep, stripping, signing in, etc etc.
I got 6 runs last time - my mate that turned up at 11 only had time for two

ps; you have to wear long sleeves and all windows, sunroofs etc must be closed for each run! dont do what i did the first time and turn up on the hottest day of the year in a matt black (super heat absorbing) car that needed the heaters on all the time to stop it overheating, with nothing but a tshirt... Had to wear a thick coat with long sleeves and probably lost about a stone in sweat thru the day lol.

yeah i know . i was running my tomcat last time . sat in the line . was just about to start and was told i need a coat or jumper . lucky for me my mate had a spare coat in his car . good job we were raceing each other . had 6 runs last time . was only geting times around the 11's . but my clutch was about to die . but bless it . she held on to give me a great day

My best was a 9.9 in the beemer.
Very annoyingly that was my first run on my 2nd time there.
Ever since then i had gearchange issues, which meant i couldn't shift from 1st to 2nd without letting the revs drop down to about 3.5k... which costs about a second. Grrr.
By the 3rd visit I had a solid rear axle (welded diff) so my launches were looooads quicker but because of the shifting problems I never had a chance to see how much it
could have improved

I'm very interested to see how the ti matches up. It doesnt feel as quick to accelerate on the road, but the bmw was helped by a stupidly close ratio diff, which meant i was at the start of 4th by the 1/8 mile.
hopefully the ti will benefit from one less gearchange so either be quicker or at the very least be about the same.
disclaimer - smeatharpe is NOT a dragstrip! Its a very rough surface so grip is poor... very poor! And its only 1/8 mile. Times recorded at this event have no relation to what you'd get on a real strip. Though they do have a 1/4 mile time converter on the website for pub bragging rights lol.
Streetwars is NOT a serious event, but it is local, cheap and a f*cking good laugh! And as you're all on even terms its great to settle forum/pub willy-waving contests, and most definitely a great way to spend a day and burn some fossil fuels... Which reminds me, the nearest petrol station is about 10 miles away so a full tank is a good idea, or at least a full petrol can spare

yeah its not the best surface , but its local and such a great laugh . will be intresting , will have too go head to head with the ti's . ive only done a few mods .

Paul, looks like its just you and me coming from this end.
I'll be hitting the A38 at about 8am if you want to meet up and make the trek together? I know the way there from memory.
8am - Sainsburys @ Marsh Mills any good for you?
I know its horribly early, but to make the most of the day getting there in time to avoid the queues is essential.

Sat night booked off work, permission granted from the boss (wife)... I'm there with big shiny bells on

Paul, text/call me after 6pm today or tomoro to let me know if you're coming/meeting up. Pm on here too, to be sure to be sure.
If it comes to it, you're more than welcome to jump in as a passenger with me. Throw me a few pennies towards fuel etc and you're welcome to a run or two up the strip in the ti.
Roll on sunday! Cant wait.
Anyone else from here going, see you there.
I'll be in the dark blue ti, reg R374***. If you see it/me, be sure to come say hello... I'm told I always look like a miserable grumpy git, but i'm really not so dont be afraid

PS. to race you have to wear a helmet.
They have lots there that you can borrow, but last time they ran out quite early so if you dont have one, start calling your biker mates and calling in the favors they owe you

I have two, one for me and one I can lend out but they're not mine so i have to be careful with them.... Oh and the guy i borrow them from has the smallest head in the universe so unless you're deformed it will be a very snug fit lol.
