J312DNN an 820 Turbo, anyone know of it?

Post by hughjohnson »

Anyone know the fate of my old tickford? Wouldnt mind it back if its still running. I would consider any Tickford Turbo, if anyone knows of one for sale.
Hugh.

Yup, Scott's old one is (probably, pending swapping a couple of bits over from mine tomorrow to try and see if the problems are serious or not!) up for sale for a bit of a bargain price. If sold, it'll need a fair bit of sorting out though.

Mine is still technically for sale, still haven't 100% decided on keeping it, as it's a thirsty old beast, and I'm doing a fair few more miles now, and it's slowly digesting my savings. One of the best you're ever likely to see though, even if I do say it myself. ;) So, offers always accepted. :)

Regarding the current status of your old car, DVLA had this to say when asked if it was currently taxed...
VEHICLE ENQUIRY

Services Provided By DVLA:

Vehicle details could not be found

As it has not been possible to locate the vehicle details, your enquiry cannot proceed and has been cancelled.

If you want to check the vehicle record held by DVLA...

Please contact Vehicle Enquiries
That's generally the response they give when you enquire about a car which has been scrapped. :(

Just got back from helping strip the head from that car, if it ends up for sale, it'll need a new head, at least one piston (probably all four), and the bores sorting out. It managed to ingest half a spark plug. ;)

I'd be patient waiting for a reply from Rob, he's still in two minds about fixing it or selling. :)

Rob's is a white H-reg saloon, used to belong to Scott, and is still in his signature above. :)

It was certainly mostly free of carbon build up, although there were so many bits of random stuff flying around in there, it was hard to tell.

We still have absolutely no idea how a small part of the ceramic insulator from a plug falling down the plug hole into one cylinder managed to cause so much damage in all four though! :?

migh be worth checking that the 'bung' i made for the throttle body take off is still there, just incase it got sucked into the intake, but i doubt it, it was chemical metal putty...

i cant believe the plugs fell apart / welded to the head. They were replaced like only a few month ago, and were the ones id always used ngk bkr6e's bought from halfords...

I was there when Rob was removing them - 1 and 4 came out just fine, but 2 and 3 were stiff, and then shattered with hardly any effort at all! Seems like a couple of random duff plugs might be a possibility, but I've never seen the insulation on plugs shatter as easily as those did. :o
