Stainless Braided Brake Lines (the sequel)

Post by Null_Byte »

Hello again.

Following the success of the previous RT group buy, I'd like to get the ball rolling for another group buy of these truly orgasmic stainless steel braided brake hoses.

Gratuitous pics of the kit:

Image

Fitting is a joy, and I am using this very kit on my bubble (brakes and car not included :P )

Image

For an excellent fitting guide see James's post here

These lines are the real deal. It even came with stainless fittings and washers.

Unlike other line kits, these have stainless ends as standard - this means that the ends will never rust and they will always come undone if you ever need to remove them. This also means you can swap them from car to car should you want, or sell them on later. They last forever.

In addition you can choose from any of the following colours for no extra cost (default is "clear") - Pictures above are "Clear Green"
Image

Prices confirmed below (RRP is £69.00 on 4 line and £103.50 on 6 line)

Group buy prices for this year are as follows:
Kit5 - 15 kitsOver 15 kits
4 Line Kit£57.25£54.00
6 Line Kit£83.25£80.00
Prices include postage, packing and delivery to your door by recorded camel.

The group buy will be handled by RT. Bank transfer, cheque or paypal accepted. If you are paying by paypal, either send the money as a gift or cover the charges!

Fittings!

If like me you are also renewing your brake pipes in copper at the same time, you may also want to consider brass or stainless line fittings to go with the kit:
FittingMaterialPrice (ea)
M10 Male Union (bundy nut)Brass£1.75
M10 Bleed ScrewBrass£3.70
M10 Bleed ScrewStainless£2.20
3/16" Brake Hardline (25ft reel)Copper£15.10
3/16" Brake Hardline (25ft reel)Copper Nickel£19.50
(I've added in the prices for copper and copper nickel brake pipe, but I think you may find this cheaper on ebay or at your local motorfactors)

A picture for clarification

Image

But wait, it gets better!

The group buy is based on kits, so it doesn't matter what model you have, or if you need a 6 or 4 line kit. All we need is 15+ names for the full discount or over 5 for partial discount.

Any rover or mg model qualifies for this group buy, and we may even be able to fit a couple of non rovers on as well.

Custom Lines

Custom lines also qualify as part of the group buy, but you would need to send me your old lines so they could be copied - I'm thinking especially of the 800 boys here as there wasn't a kit available for the 800 last time i checked.

Names below, state what vehicle you have and what kit you need. E.g. Null_Byte - 200 mk3 Rear drum - 4 line kit - Clear Green. Part kits should also be available, but check with me first so I can ask the supplier.

If you remeber our PMs a while back Jon i'd like the 2 missing lines from this kit please. And i'd also like 4 of those nice stainless "caliper banjo bolts" if you could, and the washers to go with them. And 4 brass bleed nipples :D

Stainless calliper banjo bolts are included as part of the full kit, but as your ordering a part kit I'll see about getting them added in as well. I'll get you a price on the nipples.

Re: Stainless Braided Brake Lines (the sequel)

Post by Null_Byte »

Right guys I have confirmed the prices in the original post - prices have gone up by a couple of quid and they are offering less discount on the 15+ number this year, but I'm not sure we will hit 15 kits anyway.

I've also contacted another supplier about the fittings, as the hose guys can only do the stainless nipples. The brass fittings and pipe come from another supplier, they did stainless hardware too but this was considerably more expensive from them.

There are two types of pipe available, copper is the normal stuff, copper nickel is much harder pipe which is more robust but a lot harder to bend to shape and flare. To be honest your local motorfactor should be able to supply either or you can get it off ebay which I think is going to work out cheaper than this guy - I only use him for the fittings myself - but if you want some its there.

You may want to check the prices and confirm/alter your order depending.

Mike your two line kit comes out at £31.50

Peter, I'll see about a bike kit as well but I did this for Vard last time and it was a bit awkward.

BRG Coupe, you may want to check and confirm the size/thread of the nipples on the Brembos, I've put the price there for the M10s which are the standard rover size, not sure if they are the same on the brembos.

Any other questions/requests just ask, I'll give it till next week to see if there is any more interest and then set a deadline for payments/ordering as we did last time.

Hey! I want some for my 800 :D

This 6-line business, is that a 600 thing? I'm sure the 800 is only 4.

Are you going to make me supply a set of used hoses...?

Post by Null_Byte »

I'm pretty sure the 800 is a 4 line kit, but not having one I can't confirm. The 600 has two extra hoses that joint the trailing arms to the body.

They don't list a kit for the 800 so I would need to supply old hoses for them to copy, I looked into it last time and nobody could send a set and I couldn't really justify buying a set just to get them made up.

However I did check with them and they can make them up with the weird block thing that the 800s have as well. Apparently the goodridge kit doesn't fit properly with the ends not being long enough to meet the hardline - I also discussed this with them and they were of the opinion the wrong ends had been used and they could match the OE correctly if they had the part to go on.

So with that in mind the short answer is unfortunately, yes you need to supply the lines. Ideally if somebody is breaking an 800 or their car is not being used/ in project state it would be a good chance to whip them off and send them over. I could maybe negotiate a bit of discount on the finished kit for their trouble too either that or I'll cover the postage personally just for the sake of getting them made up. There wasn't that much interest from the 800 quarter last time I tried though. :(

That's the two hose kit + 4 banjos + washers + delivery.

Bleed nipples you have a choice prices in OP. 4x Stainless would cost £12.80

Let me see if I can get a set of standard hoses.

I'm pretty sure you're right about them being 4-line, as I remember years ago replacing a section of the hardpipe to the rear wheel on an 820 saloon and I (vaguely) recall joining it under the rear seat squab...

You're also right about the weird block thing, not sure what that's for...

Hi Guys,

Last bump before we start closing the group buy.

Those of you already in, please check the list below and make sure I have you down right, as this will be the one I go from. Anybody else 100% in please put your name down individually and I will update this list.

I've tracked down a cheaper stainless nipple now so we can get them at around £2.20 per nipple, I've updated the main thread.

Jase I would think your kit would be around 29 quid roughly same price as Mikes but you don't need the extra banjos. What colour do you need?

Mark, the lines are made by Hel, they have a very respectable name in the biking world. I've fitted a set to my bubble and they are equally as good as goodridge IMO, plus they come with stainless banjos which are extra on the goodrridge.

I've added myself to the list potentially as one of the 600 needs new lines for the MOT, pending price on standard lines tomorrow this may well work out cheaper. Either way we are well over our five.

Can I just check that the 220 mk2 is the same as the mk1 as mine is the last if the mk1's I believe. Are the brakes the same between the two mks?

Can you keep this open for a few more days? I'm hoping to get a set of hoses from a scrap 800 at the weekend. There are a few people from 800.info also interested if an 800 kit can be sorted.

Mk2s were post 89 IIRC. They list for 91 - 92 for a "GTI Twincam" and a 92 - 93 for a "GTI". But as far as I know they were all the same, a 200 guru would be able to confirm. Yours has rear discs though?

Sure thing, it would be good to get an 800 kit knocked up anyway, as at least it would be a template on file if anybody wanted them in the future. I'm just bumping it up as I'd like to close it fairly soon as I need a set myself

I will go with a 4 line set for a '94 Metro in clear red if I may?
