Replacing sills and back arches on coupe

Post by TheRealStig »

I`m replacing the n/s sill and back arch on my coupe but while I`m at it I`m going to change both passenger and driver side sills and back arches

I`v looked on the internet and been to my local body panel supplier but nowhere do coupe panels, its only 4 door 200`s

Does anyone know anywhere where I can buy coupe replacement panels from?

If not is there alot of modifying to make a 4 door 200/400 sill and back arch to fit?

Any ideas/suggestions would be appreciated

Cheers

How bad are they?
Can't you get someone to fabricate a bit and get it back to mint?

Rimmers had some brand spanking new rear arches for the coupe and I'd considered getting them..I think they were around £100 each but can't be sure....could have been £200 i don't honestly remember.

either way they're rivetted on and not bolted so it's a rather large job to sort and I was advised by a body shop not to bother.

:?

Sills and back arches are welded into place mate, I wouldnt say I`m the best welder in the world but I should be able to take this quite easy

I`m not on about rover parts mate, there hard to get hold of, I`m after replicas which are sold by all body panel suppliers

I`v found some R200 4 dr ones at £17 for a sill and £15 for back arch

The coupe is going to be show car standards so it has to be done properly plus because the sill had been used by some doughnut as a jacking point the damage is quite bad, so not doing it is out of the question unless I`m going to break it, which I dont want to do

Almost every classic car restorer has had to cut out sills and archs and replace them with new panels, so its not mission impossible

As you've found though, the Coupe (and Cabriolet) have different sills which are difficult to obtain.

My point is though, you can buy 200/400 4 dr replacement replica panels but not for the coupe?

Does anyone know if 4 door sill and back arches are basically the same as the 3 dr coupe?

I think this way would be better...

Because its only the bottom of the sill that has been damaged, i can cut that away from the facia of the panel, because the length of the 200 models are the same wouldnt that meen i could use it seen as though im not using the front part of the sill which meets up with the doors?

And likewise with the arches, because the damage is only at the bottom of the arch where it meets the sill, wouldnt this section be the same as it is on all 200 models?

So basically the sections i need from the panels wouldnt matter if its a 2 or 4 door 200 model

No, if you look at the form, there's a totally different shape here as the sill section flares slightly and angles up towards the arch.

With the sills though, surely it wouldnt matter how many doors the model has as im using the bottom part of the sill panel so the look and length would be as exactly the same on all 200 models?

I can fabricate my own stuff mate, its just to save time and ensure exact matches im going to have to use sections of the 200/400 4 door sills and archs
