could rover make a comeback???

For things that don't fit into a category. i.e. non-motor related subjects.

could rover make a comeback???

Post by e2jym »

as topic said

i was talking with my fater on rover related issuses and this came up

rover name was bought by forf to protect land rover and range rover names

however ford sold the name to tata along with landrover

tata built the much hated city rover for mg rover so is it possible???

a new range of cars based on tata viehicles with the rover badge and name or even a tie up with shanghai and nangjing

what do you think stranger things have happened
went to doctors and he told me not to buy any more cars in case i have a roverdose

I doubt it.

The SITE is mostly flattened now. Maybe the site will be used for something like making the MGF or small scale production of something in the Rover family but full scale Rover brand production looks dead and buried in the UK at least. Maybe TATA will make some asian crap with Rover badges but Rover as we knew it is dead and buried.

i know the site is gone but that dont stop them building somewhere else where labour is cheaper
and as its a known mid range mid sector brand
even on low volume i bet they are thinking bout it
dont foget they also own jag
a modern rover 800 on x type platform must be possible
went to doctors and he told me not to buy any more cars in case i have a roverdose

They have the rights and tooling for the ZR shape, which has proved very popular, and they are still making new streetwises, so you never know.

I think the problem now is they have moved on.

I dont think rover could make a comeback, not because of manufacturing or china or bla bla bla... just cos the name has taken too much of a battering over the years. I know I'll get shouted at... but its become the new skoda.

I agree with you, but why did most people look so badly on Rovers? After all they were great cars of their time.

that was a tinky winky disgrace tbh, about as far from british engineering as you can get.

id love to see them come back but the name has been dragged through the mud over the years and people just will not buy anymore, HGF really did kill it eventually imo but the older Rover's are built just as well as anything of the time i think.

The difference between my old Vi/current 220 and these 2 ZR's i have is massive.

Can see why they did it, they were in desperate times...

Their formula for a small cheap car had worked well for them in the past (metro/1 series) so they tried to do it again... but as soon as it got out that all they were doing was rebranding a much cheaper tata car, everyone realised just how much in the sh*t the company was and how desperate they were.

I bet the city rover would go like stink with a T16 or even a vvc in it tho
Why has nobody converted one yet?

Funny how e.g the VAG1.8t engine is deemed fantastic by everyone.
Even tho they need special oil (apparently they really do must have very specific oil to stay alive), suffer a host of minor failures and of course throw cambelts for fun. :?

by the time all the Rovers and T16's are gone ill prob be to old to really care.
But for the younger guys i feel really sad

because it has suspension designed by people who drive to work on an ox cart...

The 1.8t is the most over rated engine in the world. Dont they put out something pathetic like 150bhp stock? I swear thats what my mate said when he had a passat 1.8t.

150 bhp is the basic one  they done a rang of them, 150 180 210 and 225 found in the late S3/octava VRS and Leon Cupra R, BAM engine code

225 bhp isnt bad from a 1.8 but when there in the S3 there more like 160-170 bhp as they lose alot of power threw the transfer,
Tourer Turbo 275bhp @ fly, 245bhp @ wheels on a stanard bottom end
More power coming soon :D

Funny thing is though, Rover's reputation for being cack has spread with such lackadaisical need for proof, that most of the people you asked about Rovers, who then replied 'oh they blow head gaskets/ break gearboxes', would then also respond 'Oh. Er. I don't know really, isn't it some kind of seal?' when asked what a head gasket was.

haha i agree 100% most people dont even know what they are. also people love suzuki vitaras an sjs there re so much worse for blowing up yet people still like em. also people swear by french diesel engines yet the amount of f8q an f9q headgaskets i do is unbeleivable. they also fitted the f8q an the f9q to the volvos v40 s40 an so on people dont knock volvos for the same problem.

Nope 5-door only.

MG is making a comeback but i think Rover is dead. The MG6 is already planned for UK production later this year along with the TF and the MG3 (ZR replacement) sometime next year i think.

you say about skoda, but look at it now. the older skodas got a bad name but the new range or skodas and some very clever marketing has made them very very popular.
