No option for the V64V from the MG Metro 6R4? One of the best noises to come from an automotive source ever!

Re: Best Sounding Rover engine? You vote!
Exhaust sound = V8 any day
Induction = Any size 16v K series with plastic injection and open cone
The v6 induction is a meaty sound but not loud enough!!!

Re: Best Sounding Rover engine? You vote!
went out in my mates TVR last nite and i gotta say the V8 sounds the best.
although i think that my 216 D series sounds alot better then my 218 vvc k series, more of a roar about it.

Re: Best Sounding Rover engine? You vote!
hmmm i really dont think you can compare a V8 to a K/T/L Series.
It's like comparing a shelby gt500 to a skyline, 2 amazing dream cars but the only real similarity is they have 4 wheels lol.
Which muppet voted derv? lol

Has to be the roaring K-Series!
Take her past 5,000RPM and you'd think she was a V8! Well... To me anyway!

Re: Best Sounding Rover engine? You vote!
my coupe t16 turbo with a one off custom exhaust makes a noise iv never heard on anything alse, sounds like a spitfire with the 4 and a half inch jap pipe no cat and big bore from turbo, and in 2 weeks time she will roar into life once again after 2 years out of service.
Im starting to really like the k aswell tho, one went past the other day when i was sat infront of a pub by the road, it was moded and sounded lovely for a nasp motor.

Re: Best Sounding Rover engine? You vote!
Induction noises.
I think I've already voted in this but, until I drove my son's Lotus Elise S2 with its 1.8 K-Series close behind you as you drive, I had no idea how nice they can sound at full chat. Induction noise is what you hear mostly then although the exhaust noise is nice when you are not in the car and its driving away from you. I have been driving my MG ZS for nearly eight years and that car has a similar engine but, you are isolated from the engine induction noise because of its location and noise suppression.
Driving a P-Reg Rover 214 without it's air filter assembly a while back, whilst giving it an "Italian Tune Up" ...
:) ;)
...the scream of the induction roar, not exhaust from that little motor at full chat is superb and almost F1 like. Most impressive.
Exhaust noises whilst driving are less noticeable as you are driving away from the sound they make and thus do not hear them much in an unmodified car. Non-standard louder exhausts you can hear when inside the car driving along.
One of the finest Induction noises I've directly experienced was that of my Four Cylinder Honda Motor Cycle engine back in the 1970s when used with air filter disconnected. You sit over the engine and the Induction sound of those four carburetters at about 10,000 rpm is almost better than an F1 engine. Awesome is a word I rarely use but, it applies with that little Honda engine's sounds...
