I think they joined forces to avoid an extra Rover forum being on the net, was always very quiet on there.

Just closed down due to lack of interest, apparently.
Mention was made of sending out emails to people to let them know, but apparently that never happened.

Anyone remember roverpower? Anyone on here from roverpower? It was odd, I had my few month stint away from forums, went back and it'd gone - so I moved here lol.

Anyone remember the old Rovertorque mail group on yahoo? I think I was on that for a couple of years; '96-98 or something - it was a long time ago.

Re: What Happened To RoverGroup ???
I thought rovergroup and roverpower were offshoots from the great 'no-mod status' argumnet on here about three years ago.. Could be wrong. They were quiet like, but a lot of people who were on here for yonks just left. Was a shame really. I havent been on there for a long time until i need to sell something.

Re: What Happened To RoverGroup ???
Roverpower came about because Andy, the guy who started Metropower, sold his Metro and moved on to a 200Vi. So he sold MP off to someone who would run it and then started a new forum in the same mould for Rovers.PJW wrote:I thought rovergroup and roverpower were offshoots from the great 'no-mod status' argumnet on here about three years ago..

Dunno the details on it, but as rovergroup was hosted on our webspace it now redirects to one of the other sites on our webspace, i.e. www.rover200.org.uk

Re: What Happened To RoverGroup ???
Rob/Paul decided to call it a day as it was very quiet. I did ask if a mail was going to be sent, but heard nothing back so I have re-directed the URL.
The 200 Site is not £8.50 to use, it is free as Carl mentioned above, we don't charge to help keep other cars on the road! It is however a proper classic car owners club so club membership is available from £8.50 which means you will get a membership card, discounts, quarterly magazines, url sticker, and attendance at shows, etc. We attend quite a few events throughout the year around the country.

I really don't see the point in multiple forums for an extinct marqué. I suggest a merger would benefit all parties. We can even give Rob and Paul their own sandpit to play in!!!

It would be nice to see a lot of the little splinter groups remerge. I don't think .cult and RT would ever merge though- way too different in their approaches.radddogg wrote:I really don't see the point in multiple forums for an extinct marqué. Re: What Happened To RoverGroup ???
I think the Rover marque must be quite unique in having proportionally one of the smallest fanbases and highest number of Forums. I think last time I counted there was well over a dozen UK based alone.
I think part of it may have something to do with the fact Rover owners tend to be quite practically minded. So starting up a website and Forum is probably not all that much of a daunting task, and in fairness it isn't rocket science.
However running one, especially when it gets busy, does take a lot more work. It does eat all your spare time, and require you to have either a very flexible life style, a well organised and well disciplined group of staff, or both. Which is why I think a lot of the Forums and sites slowly fade over time.
It's not just about clicking buttons either, fostering a sense of community and keeping things dynamic and active also takes a lot of time. Take it as read it is a lot harder than it looks!
I believe I'm right in saying Paul recently got a new Job and hasn't been online much, and I think Rob has also been very busy lately and no longer has a MG/Rover, so I think it was inevitable things were going to go quiet. Both are very welcome on RT though of course, and I think Paul does still pop in from time to time.
As the pool of Rover owners slowly shrinks over the coming years, it will become a very real prospect that Forums will become less active and some will close. Mergers are something that may well end up being on the cards, although I suspect many will decide to partner. I think Ant is right in saying .org and RT are fundamentally different, and cater for different tastes entirely, although many people are active members of both. So I don't think it is a likely prospect of them becoming one any time soon.
However for the time being, Rovertech's numbers are quite healthy and have actually been growing for the last 2 years, in no small part due to the enthusiasm of all of you ugly lot, i.e our members.
So well done and thanks for supporting RT.

I recall Paul posting that he got a promotion at work which is possibly taking up more of his time, iirc he still has his 75 though.

I was having a surf and thought I'd drop into Rovergroup....
Obviously got re-directed. Perhaps I'm guilty of not using it enough
Still, so long as RT keeps on going, I'll be happy. And I'll miss Paul's story's as much as anyone.

Re: What Happened To RoverGroup ???
Paul is a thoroughly proper chap (his missus also makes exceedingly good cakes !) and did indeed get a good promotion at work.
When Airfix brought out a kit of the Nimrod, he asked me to build it for him. We liaised a lot about accurate representations as to weapons bay setup etc and when it was completed I took it down to him.
To say he was chuffed is an understatement. Several of his ex-RAF buddies including a Nimrod pilot wanted to steal it from him but were unsuccessful. He has promised me a tour of RAF Cosford if I want (behind the scenes so to speak).
I really must get in touch and take him up on the offer.
I had started to copy and paste his "Tales from the Court" and have a read sometimes.
