Jonnys Coupe
Hi
Just gotta say - Jonny's coupe is feckin awesome.
Took me out in it today and I am severely impressed...
Nice one J!
Nearly enough to tempt me to the dark side... Not quite though.

Thanks guys.
Its been a week of 3am finishs and early starts trying to get it done in between my uni commitments, today made it worthwhile. I'd like to thank Nad for sourcing me some parts and kindly lending me his boost guage and AFR and also to Mark Eley for his advice and a late night last night sorting the fuelling out, lending me his spare boost ready ECU after i had problems with my later spec dissy, and luckily having a spare oil feed after Think Auto failed to deliver mine in time. Both are top guys I've met through the Rover community
Think i gotta get used to turbo power now though for trackwork and get a decent diff, you'll see what i mean on the vid! Great day again at Castle Coombe with perfect weather. Cheers Neill for the help with the wheel swapping today
Can now start optimising it now, starting with some mapping and hopefully PAS.
Cheers
Jonny

I seriously doubt it.
Nope

That can be arranged
Just a mapping session away ! - my Zdyne was fuelling very rich - but at least it was safe.
Top job Jonny - nice to see it all worked out well

The only replacement for displacement .................is technology !!
1993 216 turbo cabriolet - going soon

this indeed very powerful but don't forget that this is now modified so it would only be fair on us t16 boys if you compare it to something like grants engine spec
(ie turbo management etc)
i don't want to start a war
because i've seen this car in the flesh but i feel that someone should stick up for the T16's
Now in pipe and slipper land.

Yeah its a miracle these old T16's go as fast as they do considering the back design goes way back to the 50's!
It's unfair to compare it to a VTEC Turbo because the Honda engine was fast in NASP form anyway, you'd expect nothing less from a company that builds the best engines in the world, bung a Turbo on it and you have a 13's second car easily, but as a fast car with very little effort it's hard to beat the T16 if thats what you chose, just that it gets very expensive to tune after a while

Might think about a new Project
It is indeed an awsome car. Got the vid to prove which will be up very soon.
On the way back we had a play on the motorway, ok my fueling was a little low, but, 3rd gear we were level then as i shifted to 4th jonny was stillin 3rd and started to pull past then he went to 4th and continued to pull away. The smaller alloys might have been a factor too thought.
Ive got 230bhp and this car is flying. I need more power now.
Either that or its time to start me own honda project.

Bad move
Teg is a rev machine not suited to boosted apps. Extreme lightweight pistons and rods were designed to do 9k Rpm not 9psi of boost!
A Teg with 6psi of boost will nearly always do a head gasket too, as they have thinner head gaskets.
You can do a turbo type R - but you need to change the pistons, rods, H/G and then you are left with a B18C4 with fancy valvetrain.
Get an older DC2 teg import with a B18C4 engine to start with - that goes very well N/A and will like boost
But I'll stick to my Rex

Mark you just shattered my dreams
I dont have the time, money and know how to do a vtec turbo anyways. I just thought it would be sweet.
Im deffo gonna get a teggy as my next car though, I love the way a vtec on full chat sounds.

Just to say, this isn't really a T-16 vs Honda debate - it's a post about Jonny's car and the credit he is due.
BUT, T-16 is low compression compared to the Honda, which is why it makes such little power from the boost.
I'd still rather have my oil leaking O-series rip off T-16... BUT, I have to say I REALLY like Jonny's car - and Mark's, etc, but never seen Mark's with the blower.
Horses for courses though ain't it?

Me and Jonny also had a tussel from 3rd gear. I thought i was doing pretty well in the barge as we stayed side by side for a while. Hit 110mph and jonny's car just went WTF a took off like a rocket ship! Left me eating his dust
Thanks for stone chips
Neil, when i was side by side with you did you hear the pop/bang
Woops, the eboost went crazy and started flashing like mad. Boost spiked at 15.1psi on gear change and it decided to lower boost to 9psi (its supposed to half boost but carnt as actuator carnt go that low)
I think we all supprised that skyline, he came back and gave me thumbs up after we had come onto M4 down the slip road at quite a few nots.
Bear in mind Jonny has not had time to perfect this car, so when he does its going to kick some serious arse.

Cheers for all the positive feedback guys. As grant sid its not a T16 versus thread. Ive done my fair share of T16 modding and they are cracking engines. I can just be a little different with my Rover Coupe Vtec Turbo. Maybe i should call it a Rover Coupe Type T
Really got the modding bug back now so will be refining the install, adding more toys etc. First i gotta get some tyres took my 17"s off yesterday to see canvas on the inner edge of one of the rims
Best to update my spec page now

Its one of those conversions that people can normally only talk about.
coupling the power of the Turbo with the Honda VTEC system..
Was impressive to see it done.
My hat is most firmly off !
