The site is clearly about the number that are on the road, not the number that exist.
I have put the above in large bold text to help stupid people.
Well, it's about cars that legally exist. Lists both taxed and SORNed cars, so if it's not one of those, then it's probably safe to say the car no longer exists as far as the system goes.
Not quite sure where anyone got there being one Metro turbo off that site though - it quite clearly says a lot more than that!

The site clearly lists those "on the road" and "those on SORN" so it is fair to say for modern cars that is the "number that exist" as very few will have been off the road pre-sorn, and even fewer will be unlicensed due to the fines which that would occur.

I'm glad you're all enjoying the site. Regarding accuracy, the numbers should match those in the veh-0120 spreadsheet that's also been linked to on here. Since launching the site a week ago I've been working like mad trying to make sure the data is meaningful. If you notice any problems, please let me know on here and I'll look into it for you.
(those dodgy MG Metro Turbo numbers are some of a handful that I fixed t'other day, btw )

Well, it'll be a fortnight come Wednesday morning.. it's turning into a real job though. It started out when that spreadsheet was posted on Pistonheads forums. I knocked up the website in a couple of evenings, it got retweeted and picked up by some blogs and forums...
Fast forward a week and a bit, and it's had over 400,000 page views, it's linked on more forums than I can count, apparently it's in the latest Evo magazine that'll be in newsagents this week, and just this afternoon I've had an email from a Top Gear researcher. You could say I'm somewhat overwhelmed by it all!

The fact the figures have changed substantially since the other night is laughable.
The other night it claimed there were 35 Renault 5 GT Turbos left. There are now a lot more! I hadn't realised they were building them again?
is there anyway we can have a rover based weblink?
so just one click and it will take you to all the rovers/mg on there? could link it via the fourm, would be pretty cool dont you think?
-looks at null-
That's actually quite an interesting prospect. I definitely think there's room to do something like that so the site will work better with owners-group sites/forums. I'll have a think and get back to you. At the moment I'm working flat-out to re-write all the bits that I threw together quickly and make sure the site's 100% reliable (and get some proper QA tests in place, so I avoid problems like the numbers glitch the other day).

Feel free to get in touch if there is anything we can do to help i think the search works quite well as it is, you can link to a query string as it uses GET.
I know the number for the rover coupe turbos is wrong.....cos I keep getting a tax renewal for mine which some Pikeys kindly took to scrap for me over a year ago....so I just keep SORNing it as Ive tried telling DVLA it no longer exists except the parts in my garage.
I wonder how many other ZR conversions caused others to be counted the same?
Does seem odd there are more off the road than on it :/

Just put a covering letter to the DVLA with the reg , your name and address, tell them the car has been destroyed and you are no longer the legal owner. Sorning a car every year , although not very much effort is a pretty big commitment to stop you from getting fined for a rather large sum if you forget. If you move address for instance it could go on for years , gaining fines and interest !
