It's rare because its a very early one, it's LHD, and there isnt any left. i havent seen a 1600 on the road for at least 8 years. The last time i saw one was at a car show. And no its not a diesel :?

It was offered on the maestro/montego owners forum. It's been sat for 3 years but did pass the german TUV test in 2001. Very well maintained, petrol is a bit stale though. Floor needs quite a bit of welding due to being sat outside for 3 years but the rest of the car is exceptional.

Restore it to its former glory. It doesnt need much. I may port the head a little and whack the ignition advance up, but that'll be it. I may also consider converting it to RHD if i can source the parts.

I guess that'd be Dr Boucke's old car then? Looks nice now it's clean, lets hope you can get it turned into RHD. Is Nicolette's voice in German, or is it some other person speaking? ;)

Indeed it is. I may keep it LHD just to be different :) There's no radio so the voice computer wont work yet. I'll sort that later.

Managed to get it running tonight. checked the carbs over and emptied the float chambers of stale fuel (it was brown!), gallon of fresh unleaded, and it started. Except it was only firing on one! Yep, 3 duff spark plugs! Replaced them all and it sounds like new, as you would expect from a 55k miler. Carb's will need new gaskets but engine doesnt need any attention at all apart from an oil change. After extensive welding to the floor and some localised paint work it will look like a minter, i intend to get it on the road fully legal in a couple of months. Don't arf sound good with those webers :P

This one will be getting some serious lagging on the manifold and a carb cooling fan like they should have had from new (R series never had it, S series did)

Answer as per above post. The arches and doors really are that mint. Only one tiny bubble and thats it on the driver's side rear. I went to clean the edges of the arch but there wasnt any mud in them! Sign of a caring owner...

You must have seen half of the MG'M's left in existence?

Ever thought of starting a museum?

I'm amazed you can still find the support and parts for these models, they were very quickly abandoned by MG and left to hide under a rug!

I'm trying, its a crying shame that people dont give a crap about them.
There will be a serious parts supply problem in the next year or so.

Obviously bits of Mk1 interior trim for example are impossible to get hold of.

The two main clubs involved with the car's namely the MG M group and the MMOC are not doing enough to support the car's future needs for spare parts, everyone one will panic when they cant get hold of certain things and then even more car's will be scrapped, making any maestro or montego a rare sight on the roads. Hard to think where just under a million car's have gone in the past 15 years :?

I'm impressed with your knowledge :D

I'm sure I saw someone post on another forum recently that the window control came from a Ford originally?
