Samco top boost hose T16 failure

Post by ghall2004 »

Anyone had any experience with Samco customer service?

Ie failures

1. within purchase warranty period
2. out with warranty period
3. internal wall structure failure
4. Success rates with claims

I have a top boost hose, T16 , Samco and its now falling off any every opportunity when boost is induced

You can see here the internal wall ply is disintegrating and failing

Image

I suspect this is at the point at which the hose clip is meeting the tb outlet rim

Too tight?
flexing under boost/acceleration and slowly causing friction and wearing away?

Before i cut it, or replace, does any one think i have a chance of assistance from samco at all?

or should i just bin it and fashion up a solid pipe top boost pipe solution

That doesn't look good pal but probaly first time I've heard off samco failing like that but they probaly fob you off ie over tightening like you said so I would just make your own bud

personally this is the 2nd failure on this car of a silicon samco hose
Sfs fail too

I know of one other fail on a turbo to rad hose too

It's obviously been overtightened though so I don't really see the point in having a go. They'll only point out the obvious?

It may look that way

But It is not the case, and is a genuine samco supplied hose clip

But i do accept at first look this is the most obvious reaction, and potentially true to a extent perhaps

I would think it would have been the entire way round, not just a small section of the inside wall

but appreciate the input

I think the non standard i/c pipe work routing is to blame, as its technically not fulfilling the purpose it was designed to do

ie standard rover tb to intercooler distance and angle

Having said that its been fitted for over 12 months in that way and only recently has it failed.

Perhaps the number of times i have had it off and on in recent times due to issues with engine and so on

obvious really

in all honesty the final stage/leg of the boost pipe work on my setup is a compromise i feel.

Perhaps asking a bit to much of the hose, as in take up difference in angle of pipe work coming up from intercooler.

Will try a trim and a wider clamp eg MIKALOR effort

All this to retain the ALL MIGHTY ROVERDOSE COLD AIR BOX

I called samco a few months ago to complain that my hoses were discolouring. The guy was very cheeky to me and tried to say my hoses were probably fake!!! I got the hoses from the group buy on here... That was also an issue for samco, as they were not bought direct from the company!!!
So, I had to buy more hoses.

Cool

Thanks for the input

Had hoped you would chip in with the outcome of the hose lack of shine issue you had

Perhaps some negative Social media exposure on their FB page will swing things

The colour changing will be down to using some harsh degreasant or similar product that wasn't meant or approved. The samco approved cloth cleaner will be no more than an alcohol wipe which won't affect colour. It won't really shift any serious oil stains either! As we know the T series loves to leak oil so...

Usually discolour from over using wd40 to clean and protect them or exposed to copious amounts of heat.

gonna be honest

i think the salt that is put down on the road up in Scotland has a massive affect on the hoses

I doubt it's going to be that different from the salt anywhere else in the uk though?

This. Greg, I used my old evo during the winter months on salted roads, it had white and blue hoses and were fine. The ones nearest the turbo manifold went a dull cream colour in the end.

I had no end of problems with Samco on Turbodge - I found they used to be 4-plys of cord but dropped to 3 a few years ago to save money and these definitely fail more as a result IMO.

Some of the 'cheaper' stuff like viper, SFS and Logpro lasted much better for me, but obviously depends if they have a mandrel for a 220 (I doubt) to make you a replacement hose.

thanks Rob

Yeah i noticed a difference in the ply on mine compared to some older hoses Dan had when i was down in oct

They have asked for more images ( Samcosport.com) and will see what they have to say

Depending on how i get on there, will just go for a alternative manufacture combination and re do pipe work

I started using the "samco" auto glym wipes, then moved to using baby wipes as it is proven that they work well on the hoses.
I used the wipes on all my hoses, and it was only the boost hoses that went a darker colour.
The coolant ones are still perfect.
So it's not down to using the wrong wipes.
