Sold the evo and.....

Post by Marty »

Bought a Golf GTTDi 25th Anniversary edition. 150 PD engine

It's makes a nice change to not see the fuel guage move [emoji38]

The evo was fun but to be honest in the end I was bored with it as a daily drive it was no fun in the city to drive always wanted to get up and go so fancied a change here some pictures of the new one :) Has been well looked after with an extensive service history portfolio only £145 a year to tax and has plenty of go ;)

Each to there own an Evo 8 did not do it for me in the end was fun to begin with but short gearing keep having to change gear just got tedious I can sit in 6th in that Golf and still have plenty of torque to excelerate. It was either that golf or another Transit connect but went for the golf.

Petrol was not good but then I did not buy it for economy. I just found as a daily driver it got boring it was no fun in traffic and I only ever done short runs which was not ideal for it.

Good to see the new owner is already using it to its full potential 1 speeding ticket and counting [emoji38]

It has aftermarket boost pipe kit on it all alloy to stop the splitting issue the service history is immense its had

new camshaft, lifters, stretch botls , cambelt , water pump

clutch

DMF

EGR delete

new rear calipers

disks

pads

polly bushed front end

new shocks and top mounts

refurb alloys

4 new tires

full geometry setup on a hunter

fully serviced december

the list is endless a real credit to the previous owner it was not cheap but the condition and how meticulous the service history was in my opinion it warranted it and it goes well for a derv. Most of the above has been replaced within the last 6 months except the cam that was 20'000 miles ago.

That's just some of the work that's been done it has wanted for nothing a really nice genuine car and I prefer it to the evo.

As for how long ill be keeping it ill see you guys know me [emoji38]

It was MK5 money but I was impressed.

I was also going to look at a MK5 but on phoning the add I got some wide boy who said the car at his mates garage just having a new set of injectors fitted as he thought it's best to so the new owner would have no troubles bruv

Needless to say I passed on that one I never let them know I'm a qualified mechanic and know my stuff if they try feed me with bull I just walk away.

The chap who had the one I bought was strait up as he was talking me through the work that had been done he had owned the car 3 years he was showing me the invoices to back it all up. He had a genuine reason for sale he was buying a house and leaving his mum's house I would of stayed at his mum's was a really nice house [emoji38] and the golf had always lived under the car port.

Was a lucky find and only 10 mins from my house as well :)

A Evo 8 GSR isn't short geared..... Yes the 6speed is rubbish and normally drops out on the floor but the ratios are good. You try driving my VII RS with the factory sprint ratios you can go into 5th @ 30mph :w00t:

That is a GSR, you will have had a guess elec windows, Recaro front seats, abs, air con, central locking, AYC, ACD, Brembo brakes and a 6 speed box. They come over from Japan as a GSR and Ralliart UK put on a HKS intercooler pipe kit and exhaust, remap it and for the UK market becomes a FQ300, FQ320 etc depending on output

How come your using a 260 5 speed rather than a RS or GT unit?

Yep easy to buy them but its everything that goes with it. AYC is a major problem with them even the X's having issues now luckily I only had AYC on my IX FQ320 but that was only a year old when got it thank god. My IX GT and VII RS have the RS rear diffs so just a mechanical LSD and no AYC

Was very nice indeed. I vaguely remember top gear test driving the fq300 saying it was a beast and test driving the fq400+ and saying they had just whacked a great big turbo on it and although good fun just didn't driv as good as the fq300.

Would have one any day just love the style of them.

I once tried to "show a EVO up" down a country lane in my The series think it would of been a EVO 6 and never have I seen a car move so fast in my life! Just destroyed me! Love then quality cars.
