The Jag isnt exactly brilliant, the interior is full of black plastic Ford in a beige interior... looks very tacky IMHO!

As for the exterior, well, they were both designed at the same time, but wasnt the 75 launched first?

Drives like a Jag, looks like a Jag and came out before the S type.

oh and a lot cheaper.

75s are very smooth and comfy cars.

The Rover 75 is easily as good as the Jag, in fact the S type is poorly built for a Jag. Don't diss one unless you've tried and driven one, these are superbly built cars.

I have driven serval 75 (two of them been V6's top of the range) and the other a TD and jags S,X and older ones so i think that i would now..... which is why i was passing comment..... sorry that you know it all and i have no experience!

ok them these 75 are supurb...... my donkey boy off the road for 3 months waiting for a down pipe from rover???? i think not! interior trim falling off..... engine loseing all power, a/cpacking up.... the list carries on and when the car still very new and will do like 40-50k miles per year and is off the road for 3 months i take that as typical rover build quality, and very poor customer service as it has been for so long.

Yet when rover get it right and any of the cars are running well most of them are nice to drive etc but no where near a well build quality car.

75 has got the looks though.

So its like new after 50k and your waiting for a part?

Sunds like 'really bad' build quality :?
Sound more like its very good and getting a part is hard cos they rarely need replacing ;)

Im sure Audi has lots of igniton coils at the mo, if you can go and buy one within 5 minutes to fix your broke car does that mean you have a well built car ? ;)

At the risk of turning this thread into a bashing of Rovers ability to build fault-less cars, I liked the quote from the Honda S2000 forum...
If you read this list and decide, "Oh, the S2000 is no good because some engines fail." then you're obligated to find yourself a car which never has any engine problems and I think those only exist in car heaven.

At the end of the day EVERY car has its flaws, Look at Vuaxhalls and Fords  Iv'e been happy with the Rovers i've had. Even my Birds Dad who owns a 1989 213 is still happy with his, at 150,000+ miles its still running strong!

I'd have to say the 220 Coupe Turbo. I remember seeing one when they came out in '93 and thinking "i want one". Honorable mention got to goto the SD1. Pretty ground breaking in there time. Its a shame Rover couldn't abandon there chrome & slippers image and revert back to some of that revolutionary design they used to pioneer.

If the car is off the road for 3months and there still doing 50k per year. That would be about 1400miles per week. Thats a fair few miles!!!!

An old rover coupe(3.5 v,it looks like the roof has been chopped.
It would have potential to be a big muscle car.

Have to agree...... those and the ordinary 3 litre saloons it was based on had enormous presence and for their time were very nice to drive.

Going back to a similar period in time, probably before most BBSers here were born, anyone fortunate enough to see the Rover Gas Turbine Le Mans car in action would, like me, place that top of their favourite Rovers listing...... Impressive .... all aspects ..... nuff said.

My all time favourite ARG-Rover-MG product..... the humble and greatly underestimated MG Montego Turbo .... the very early ones.... prefer driving those to my ZS and Tomcat turbo .... :) ... difficult to fully explain why, I just lurve 'em ...;)

Marko, Tomcat:

(as they are always people that know nowt about cars)

Sadly, there are many car buyers in this class who glean their car knowledge from a friend who knew someone who had one once, or worst still, rely on the consumer magazines to decide on their choice of cars .... there really are a lot like that out there.

he also mentioned the MG Maestro 2.0i advertisement:

"The Golf GTi 16v will be along in a second"

Had an old car magazine clear out sometime back and discovered this very advert and kept the copy....... made me smile to see it again..:) When the subject of cars appears, as it often does, I occasionally show it to shall we say the less well informed (as per your previous quote above) and not surprisingly, some believe it simply is not true that the humble bog standard normally aspirated MG Maestro is actually quicker than the much more highly regarded VW Golf GTi....... it's German for crissakes so must be superior in all respects .... stands to reason ... :D:D

ARG now MG-R have this still active, but, fortunately diminishing "mindset" obstacle to overcome in the highly competitive UK motor sales environment. However, if the huge number of MG Zeds and newish Rovers I now observe on local roads is reflected elsewhere in the UK, they appear to be succeeding in overcoming this far too long standing mindset. Three years ago, a new or even newish Rover was a rare sight on local roads....

Picking a fav Rover from the stonking stuff theyve given us? and some of the stuff they havnt given us. i coudnt do it.

For an opinon tho its the T16T engine, 90% of our community here is built around it. Its powering 3 generations of cars, its reliable, powerful and economic. Without it, as much as i love them i woudnt have a rover.

Before i could drive i saw a site that will live with me for ever.
It was an SD1 towing a 528. As i sat waiting 1 hour on the SD1 came, flat out back in the direction it had come from, giving chase and already loosing ground and struggling to keep within visual range was the freshly repaired 5series. It was ironic at the time, maybe even more so today.

It has got to be the 200 BRM. I like everything about this car bar the the insurance grouping. Its rare (only about 800 ever in the UK), stands out, looks better, is made better and is more fun than the ZR160. I would say that though - I have got one and I love it to pieces!

The first Rover I ever had an interest was the P6 3500S, style, power and ahead of their time. Second to that would be the SD1 Vitesse and then the 620Ti. I reckon their all just updated versions of each other, in my mind at least ;)

With dad having had an old Jag back when they were around and now; and having been in a 75 and the new S-Type; the 75 is FAR more like the Jaguar of old than the new S-Type is.

The style (tourer got it right, saloon went wrong at the back) is okay on the outside (I prefer the dechromed MG look myself); but its the inside and the ride that scream "Jaguar" more than the S-Type does. (S-Type screams 'BMW' - /tolerably/ comfortable (even the old 800s were more comfortable) but knows what to do when it sees a bend in the road.

The 75 needs 8" more in wheelbase, longer seatbases and more legroom in the back, and to offer the 4.6 with 'soggy' wheel/suspension/steering setup; then it really would be in a class of its own.

If you think the s-type is any better built you're hving a larf; its only as good as a Mondeo (Lincoln actually isn't it); trim falls off, dad's started to rust after 2 years, all the bodywork electronics were not finished when the car was launched and it took Jag/Ford a year to roll out the updates through to the delaers and 'update' the software on the car such that you could use it without alarms going off or it immobilising itself or flooding hte engine and you needing to pull the fuel pump fuse out to clear it if the temperature was below 5 degrees C...

Bet that drives nicely - any 800 owner will tell you how flexible the saloons and fastbacks are, let alone with the roof cut off. And we all know how Moto-bodge do their work.

heres my choice:
1. Coupe, laydeez love a Rover Coupe, (say it like the milktray advert!) and some are Honda powered!, turbos can murder cozzies and a few scoobys!! SHAMON MUTHERFOCKER!!
2. 220 gti/turbo, nice, classicy and fast. Very sleeper.
3. ZT, looks and performance, but bit plasticy?
4. MG Metro Turbo, wahey!
5. Fastback, liked these from when I was a kid.
6. Mg Maestro, fast and fat!

Dont like:
1. ZR and ZS, too underpowered driven by old boy racers and people who think their ZR 105 will beat my coupe! hahahahahaha u fools, hahahahaha.
2. MGF, why?, oh sorry, laydeez car!! some have nice alloys tho.
3. Any rover that hasnt been looked after or any 214/216 driven by smackheads or twocers!!
Want a turbo on my K-series!

All GTi Turbos where fitted with the T-Series. Chrome Grille will have been retro fitted. I think some dealers did this if you specified. I am not sure of the exact number of GTi Turbos
