Car Crash

Post by chris218i »

Two days ago i was going to see a girl in town roughly about 9pm I was in the Front passenger seat of my mates Rover25 (zr bodykit) he was driving out of town, the roads were dry and clear, anyway we got upto about 80mph comign out of town :o Far too fast for the driver and the car bare in mind my best mate was driving, Anyway all i remember was seeing a car edging out of a sideroad it was a Toyota people carrier thing, he obviously hadn`t seen us and decided to go for it straight out in front of us :( my mate unfourtunatly didn`t know how to react and went on the wrong side of the road at this point didn`t brake once and we ended up hitting with my corner straight into the centre of this Toyota at a combined speed of about 95mph the toyota went 180 degres in the opposite direction and we went 180 degress the other way mounted the pavement and it reversed into a concrete bollard at god knows what speed, i was unconcious before we had even hit the car due to me not being in control and just seeing what was coming :( ive only found all of this out by photos etc.. anyway Result was with me not wearing my Belt which i know no one will have any sympathy for me ended up with my left leg getting jammed through the glove box door and made it as far as the heater blower unit, My head smacked the top left of the screen and went straight through its fractured my skull but no brain damage, Just huge cuts all over my face and head and my left knee cap is split in two with a snapped patteler bone also in my knee, Had to be cut out of the rover by firemen and then was placed on a spinal board with the color etc... Went to stafford hospital and had 12 x-rays results concluded as above, had to stay over night, even two hours after the accident my heart beat was at 175 beats per minute when it should be about 70 or 80 i was unconscious for about 15 minutes, and my mate said the last thing i said before we hit it was wooo woooo woooo, Anyway both cars are a right off, And ive got to go back to hospital on thursday for my knee cap surjury, and full black cast on my leg because its just white cast at teh moment, i will also get teh x-rays back so wil post them, anyway jus thought i would let you all know.

Nasty mate, hope you recover fully and quickly. However i wouldnt be very happy with my mate putting my life in danger like that. If hes doesnt know how to respond to someone pulling out on him , he shouldnt be doing in excess of nsl speeds in a town. give him a clip round the ear.

Is your mate injured badly ?

Sh!t dude glad you're ok-ish. This explains why you didn't come round to buy the mini moto frame off me over the weekend and didn't reply to my text.... Proof that sometimes people aren't just letting you down.

How are the 2 drivers?

I take it your mate will get the book thrown at him then. Do the police know you didn't have a seat belt on?

see i will argue against this people (flame proof jacket)

my brother wrote off his 216gti at the m25 a2 turn off and closed all 6 lanes for the rush hour (good job son) he fell asleep behind the wheel and clipped a coach full of germans :D at approx 125mph then went crahin into the central reservation at a speed of 125mph (him fallin asleep made his foot relax on the pedal thus pushin it to the floor) well story of it his... his face was smashed to bits thorugh it going through thw window, they had to rebuild his mouth pallet eye sockets nose and jaw bone as well as god knows how much plastic surgery. also had 5 broken ribs ankle and numerous other cuts including those on his eyelids and literally everywhere.

the head surgeon said if he had been wearing his seatbelt then my brother would have been dead. i personally do not wear a belt

but thats my decision

Sounds very lucky mate, and its a good argument to remind people that if someone is driving out thier league, tell them to slow the hell down.

Im sorry? Surely if he had the seatbelt on he would not have put his head through the glass and needed to have the whole thing rebuilt. The only reason he didnt do more was probably because he was asleep and relaxed.

There is NO excuse not to wear a seabelt.

true he was asleep and relaxed but the seat belt would have snapped his neck or spine, this came from the head surgeon!

Glad to hear you're still with us Chris, wish you and all others involved a speedy recovery. Sounds like you had a very lucky escape, I've seen the results of a crash at a combined speed of 60mph and it's shocking to say the least.

214_si wrote:the head surgeon said if he had been wearing his seatbelt then my brother would have been dead. i personally do not wear a belt

If this was due to g forces then under certain circumstances it could be true however I believe you're far more likely to be killed by your airbag or hitting something when you come flying out the windscreen!.

And your point is????

There are hundreds of people that are saved by seatbelts everyday and there are many who are killed from, either not wearing a seatbelt or from rear seat passengers neglecting to do so.
Your brother's accident sounds exceptional and he is lucky to be alive by the sounds of it.

Worth noting that airbags are designed to be used in conjunction with a seatbelt.

So you dont plan to wear a seatbelt, cos all your forseen crashes will be at 125mph, and your body will be asleep and relaxed?

Sorry but thats complete doggies, what about the car that was crashed into in this thread? if they had chosen not to wear seatbelts because all there crashes would be as you described, then theyd be fecked.

All these compo claims only put insurance up aswell.

Put your belt on FFS. Anyone who thinks a belt will make them worse in an accident clearly has never seen the result or been involved in a serious accident. :|

Im sorry but few peoples luck escapes do not justify not wearing a belt.

That is foolish logic. If you have an impact @ 30mph with a belt on youll hardly even feel it, without, thatll smart.

just because you have been lucky once doesnt mean you should push it.

From what I have heard. The biggest cause of injuries by wearing a seatbelt, are through people not properly adjusting there headrests.
So a bit of common sense can iron that problem out.

How are the people that were in the other car? As far as I can see they're the only people who deserve sympathy.

I always wear a belt, and make sure my passengers wear one. I dont drive anywhere without all people belted up.
If you think that not wearing a seatbelt is a good thing then you really are stupid. Most of the time, keeping the driver/passenger in his seat and not rolling around/being thrust forward is going to save their life.

But if you dont want to wear one fine - it brings back natural selection into todays society. Survival of the fittest, or least stupid.

Even better thing to do though is not drive so fast, or not go in cars driven that fast when it's not safe.

Just a quick reminder - it's acually the LAW to ware a seatbelt.

there are some exceptions:
The legislation provides for a number of specific exemptions from the seat belt wearing requirements on medical and other grounds. Please consult your doctor if you think you should not wear a seat belt on medical grounds.
As for the others these include:-

"(b) a person using a vehicle constructed or adapted for the delivery of goods or mail to consumers or addressees, as the case may be, while engaged in making local rounds of deliveries or collections;

(c) a person driving a vehicle while performing a manoeuvre which includes reversing;

(d) a qualified driver (within the meaning given by regulation 9 of the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1987) who is supervising the holder of a provisional licence (within the meaning of Part III of the Act) while that holder is performing a manoeuvre which includes reversing;

(e) a person by whom, as provided in the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1987, a test of competence to drive is being conducted and his wearing a seat belt would endanger himself or any other person;

(f) a person driving or riding in a vehicle while it is being used for fire brigade or police purposes or for carrying a person in lawful custody (a person who is being so carried being included in this exemption);

(g) the driver of—
(i) a licensed taxi while it is being used for seeking hire, or answering a call for hire, or carrying a passenger for hire, or
(ii) a private hire vehicle while it is being used to carry a passenger for hire;

(h) a person riding in a vehicle, being used under a trade licence, for the purpose of investigating or remedying a mechanical fault in the vehicle;

(j) a disabled person who is wearing a disabled person's belt; or

(k) a person riding in a vehicle while it is taking part in a procession organised by or on behalf of the Crown."
