Well, as disconnecting the battery is a zero cost repair it's got to be worth trying before spending hundreds on a new alarm ECU.

regarding the alarm going off my 620 Si did the same, locked the car then for no reason the alarm went off,
I checked all door switches and one off them was disconnected, fixed it but still the same, found something in the bonnetlock and it was the bonnet switch that had fallen of the lock, has jammed the switch so it's now closed and surprise surprise never have had a false alarms during these 2 years..

The switch is a microswitch and is inside the bonnet lockassembley, keyfod locks only 3 doors on mine. so i'm using key only..

About 2 days ago I tried to lock the car using the fob but the car wouldn’t lock or unlock, even thought the lights on the fob were lighting up. I locked the car using the key, walked about 10 yards and the alarm sounded, I went back to the car tried the fob and eventually it worked and Locked the car ever since then every time I lock the car either with the key or the fob the alarm sounds after about 10-30 seconds does anybody know what could be causing this? And where the best place to take it ?

Thanks

Ensure all doors, boot and bonnet are closed correctly. Then try again. If it still plays up, only a systematic check of all likely causes will flush out the problem. Tackle the no or low expense items first... like switches and connections in good condition, battery disconnect and ensuring all doors, boot lid and bonnet properly closed.
Apparently ... in a parallel universe MGJohn drives ....wait for it..... A ..

Right well Alarm is now playing up again!!!!!!!

It goes off 3-4 times for the 1st hour then it seams to be ok, but now the fobs arent working, will try the disconnect the battery thing again see if that works if it doesnt anyone have any other ideas?????

Am thinging about getting a new alarm but someone I spoke to said that the alarms on the 600 are a bit of a swine as there connected to everything. Has anybody had a DIFFERENT alarm fitted and if so would you recommend anyone/alarm?

Traded in my 97' 216 coupe SE in yesterday for a 98 600ti in burnt orange! Fantastic car, shame the clutch release bearing sounds like a washing machine full of spanners! Oh yeah, and the alternator packed in on the way home about 7 last night, oh well, a couple of weeks and an empty pocket, it'll be good as new!

That just might NOT be the release bearing.

Had that same noise with mine and ended up having the gearbox overhauled :(

Previous owner did it..

Chipped, uprated turbo (hybrid i think) Pipercross induction kit, s/s exhaust.. cant think what else he's had done to the engine.. :?

Also got bilstiens and some kind of uprated discs..

Its in the body shop atm, should look cool..

Its got Mynheer skirts, front splitter and rear bumper quarters, having the boot all smoothed and flushed inc reg inlay, having front wide-mouthed, and sum cool adjustable evo spoiler..

Should go nicely with the sound and speed!

Sweet car Jim!

No, Now Im interested.

Is this chip the one that makes you overfuel or the one that removes the boost cut so you can melt your pistons?

Or are you talking about a proper MEMS replacement like emerald management?

Looks like i'm not the only fan of the 600 then? :D

Mine's a 1998 ti in Zircon Silver - such a lovely blue-ish silver which is a bit different from most other silver cars out there. Used to have a 1994 620i - really good car, got it when i was 17. And for a 17 year it was quite fast!

Bought my ti about a year ago - insurance was quite a bit for a 21 year, but I LOVE IT! The styling is wonderfully subtle. My dad used to have an N reg BRG 600 and had it for for about eight years - normally he kept cars for three or years so. He loved the shape - he has a 1.8 75 now, which is a lovely car and very comofrtable too, but it's not a performance car....

I still love the shape. The ti's combination of speed, styling, comfort and power is hard to beat. And now the ti offers amazing value for money! It has something which the BMW's and other lack, not sure what it is, but it's what really makes it feel like something special. Plus it's the ultimate Q car! :)

I always think the ti is something of a 'private pleasure' ( :o in a non-kinky way though...) right up until the point where the 316i fleet driver is trying to workout why the rover is disappearing into the distance... :D

Guess it's time to add myself to this thread...

Bought my '98 620ti in March 2006. My budget was £1,600 (the value of my bonus this year, after tax). I'd already decided I wanted to get my first powerful car... most of the cars I've owned haven't exactly been 'performance' models...

X reg Datsun Cherry 1.2
E reg Vauxhall Belmont 1.3
F reg Nissan Bluebird 1.6LS
G reg Vauxhall Cavalier 1.6L
J reg Ford Granada 2.0i Ghia
K reg Vauxhall Calibra 2.0i 8v
M reg Vauxhall Cavalier 1.8LS

The Calibra was the best car of the lot. So I'd decided to go for a newer Calibra, and was looking for a 2.5L V6 (170bhp), on a P plate or later. Found a really nice one at a dealer in Maidstone, but it was over budget at £2k. But I figured I could beat the price down, so I called up my insurance, and that killed it - they insisted on a Thatcham Cat 2 at least, and even with that, my insurance would double!

So the search was on. I looked at various Hondas (my dad has an Accord, and I thought that was nice) but there was not much around with grunt within my budget. Then I was browsing through cars on eBay within my budget, and saw a 620ti. I read the spec, and thought 'no way', thinking the guy must be an idiot. A Rover with 200bhp for under £1,500? 0-60 in 7 secs? 143mph? Half leather, air con... no, can't possibly be true... :?

Then I saw another ad which gave roughly the same details. Hmmmm. Worth investigating. So I checked out the Parker's website to see if the details were true. I was shocked, they were true! But not as shocked as when I called my insurance company, and they said my premium wouldn't change from what I was already paying for my 1.8 Cavalier! :o

That was the clincher. I HAD to get a 620ti. So I did. Now I'm planning to keep it long term and modify it extensively (over a long period, as funds allow). I'm hooked!
Steve
