Hi All,
I introduced myself a few days ago... just bought a 98 ti for £500.
Anyway, the MOT is due in Jan but I thought may as well get id done with a service now... 12 months peace of mind and all that.
Car is in good nick but for £500 you've got to expect a few things wrong...
Got a call from the garage... needs 2 new tyrs and the handbrake adjusting... and that's it! Woohoo! Pretty happy I've got to say.
So I am getting 4 new Avon ZZ3s for £60 per corner fitted and the handbrake is being looked at on tuesday. Hopefully it won't be anything too horrible.
Just thought I would share my joy.
Have a nice day...
Rik
(PS pics to follow soon I promise!)

Before adjusting the handbrake, the rear pads should be checked and replaced if worn. That's usually the problem when the handbrake goes out.
These cheapies can be real bargains - we paid £250 for 1993 Vitesse turbo nearly 3 years ago and it has now passed two MOTs without any work being done (other than routine servicing).

Minei due on Jan 7th or so, and as usual im not looking forward to it!
The tyres are all good, front brakes are good as they stop me well, no lights on dash
Looked at last years advisories and hopeully they were done as there was a few, mainly bushes
On doing an oil change I had the drivers side wheel off and noticed that the front suspension, there is a bar running up the side with another coming out of the top that meet, with a bush in the middle, that bush looks like it will need to be changed, whatever that bush is!
But thats all I know it needs, i will have to spend a bit of time looking over it to see if there is anything major I can see
And put it in next month to see how it goes, gives me transport even if it does fail since it runs till january.....I know it will fail on wipers though, so new wipers and put it in and hope for the best!
No idea about emissions though

I drive a 1994 Rover 620 Ti, and my little toy, a Mk3 Honda CRX Vtec which is dead at the moment!
Emissions wise I was fine... which was nice. That's always something I worry about.
Couldn't agree more re cheap cars. When I announced that I was selling my current car (A beautiful Peugeot 406 Coupe 3.0 V6 SE absolutely mint with 50k on it) to get a £500 car there was a look of shock on the faces of most of my friends. Basically I was about the cost of the peugeot away from being debt free and it was too tempting to have no liabilities... so the peugeot went.
But most people thought I was mad... assuming that a £500 car will cost a fortune to maintain. The thing is... most modern cars are built pretty well and if you find a decent example you are laughing!

Stupid really though, if it had a different pose-friendly badge it would be such a different story. When I bought mine £3,000 was the right sort of price for late model ti in good condition....Punx0r wrote:£500 for a 98 is below the going rate
