What have you beaten in you turbo
Moderator: Forum Moderators
Mondeo ST220
Focus ST
Supra turbo (had big FMIC and massive exhaust). Thought I was gona get spanked but managed to stay with him untill I got a bit concearned about the speed and backed off.
Porsche Boxter S.
Porsche Carrera 4S (new shape). Was rolling, not off the line.
About tied with my mates Audi S4 (which has RS4 turbos), but obviously only when we're both moving.
Not really played with anything else. No Scoobies or Evos so can't comment on them. I've only played with one other Rover which wasn't a tubby and blew it off the road (Which is to be expected I spose).

finally left him at speeds unmentionable to the law ... maybe he backed off but was sure a shocker compared to other sportier looking cars i'd beaten easily.
ST220.. he was shocked i could out drag him.
CTR.. same reaction, but i overtook him not just pulled away.
VTS.. very over confident driver went to overtake me before i could overtake the car in front of me, he passed me then i followed and took him back, very shocked. Did the same to a pushy 2.7 Audi A6 diesel.
Clio williams.. this guy was confident because he pulled away from me before, but that was my old 420 that had a holed piston and no power lol
Cav SRI, not a bit scalp i know, but ive never seen such a p'ed off looking driver. hilarious.
Audi coupe V6, quick, but lost ground, looked annoyed.
Golf GTI 180 anniversary, not much contest, was surprised how slow it was.
205GTI 1.9 from the lights, wasnt to happy about it.

My Dads ride-on lawnmower, I had him - right up until the flower bed
On a more serious note, not many roads around here to wave my wanger.
But I did go slow round a roundabout, as I saw a chav in a Calibra come hooning up behind me. So once the straight commenced he nipped out to overtake, until I dropped it a cog and let him chase me for 10 miles
Gave him a flash etc - Was a 4x4 turbo. My vehicle was fully laded with mates.
As a result of this incident, my chipolata grew 11mm
One day I'll reach 4 inches

Despite what people say, if driven properly they go ok. You wont beat one in a 1.6 Corsa. Unless you mean the Austin Mini Cooper S.I pissed all over a mini cooper s in my corsa 1.6...
they dont stand a chance against a tubby...
do you mean the old one? or the BMW one? cause if you're talking about the BMW one, you realise its the S dont you? the one with the supercharger?

the fastest mini i've seen is the old style mini's with a honda s2000 engine in. A garage near me does these often... WOW!
when i had my fiesta turbo some pecker in a mini cooper S (new one) shot off from the lights on me..i let him for a few seconds before my brother screamed 'Don't let him do that siht!!!'
floored it and caught his accellerating shed very quickly..waited for a quiet spot on the road and left him behind....crap car or maybe crap driver but imo theyre not so fast

Well not in my old tub, but still very funny
I was in my old 998 Mini only mods a stupidly large PIONEER sticker on the front screen
(I was 17) and a set of 10" wellers with 175/70/10 yoko's.
Up against a Golf VR6, I was on the A44 from Worcester to Bromyard if anyone knows it very twisty with some nice overtaking bits, basically, the VR6 planted itself on my backside, waiting for the traffic to clear before he overtook me, thought i'd give it a go, 12 miles later VR6 still behind me with the driver giving me some hand signals
.

Pretty much all the cars listed on here so far won't be blown away by any of our Rovers. Also, to blow another car off the road it takes a truly massive amount of extra power or a mistake from the other driver, but then that's not the car you're beating it's the driver. You wont waste an Evo, a Scooby and certainly not an M3 or TVR in our cars. You may keep pace or 'slowly' pull away but certainly not convincingly. The reason that our cars do so well against others is that it might be that it's easier to get the best out of our cars, easier then it is to get the best out of the others. Some cars take alot of skill to get the best from them, eg TVR. They're proper performance cars with alot more thought, design and money spent building them rather than just bolting on a bigger turbo, air filter and turning up the boost. Most of the replys make it sound like you absolutly wasted the other car when in fact I'm willing to bet it was alot closer than some of us make out. For example I wont blow a Focus RS away, an Evo ?? I'd be happy if I could just stay with and an M3 E36/E46 300/350bhp I have serious doubts. As for a TVR.... I would only expect to be seen in his mirrors.

Indeed, it does take a lot to walk away from someone, though it can be done in a Rover, no need to think you'll only ever be able to "inch" past these cars.
P1 scooby for example, I took 1-2 car lenghts off of a P1 in the last 100 metres of a 1/4 mile before, he had got ahead off the line obviously with the 4wd, both cars ran a 13.1 on that run IIRC, his 60ft a lot better than mine, my terminal a lot better than his, had it been an "on the road" play then I would expect to open up a large gap tbh, same with standard EVO's, E36 M3 etc, I doubt it would just be a case of inching away. Wouldn't leave them sitting either obviously, but it would be convincing enough.
As for the cars I mentioned in my reply to this, your right, there wasn't much in it with any of them, would have been dull if there was as it was on a track day, I like the other cars on track days to be fast, only marginally slower than me lol, truth be told having something faster to chase is more fun.
I agree though that I would reckon a lot of the posts, including mine as I said above, were "wins" with not much in it, they are the most fun anyway.

absolutely totally wasted him .. left from the lights by at least 10-15 cars distance.
here's why...
the traffic lights went straight into a series of sharp bends and then onta a long straight....
here's the crunch...it was pouring down, he tried to go from the off and started sliding sideways
the fact he passed me on the straight doing well over a ton still didnt take away the fact that as you're rattling on about up there .. power isnt everything. Sounds so american to think it does. I agree beating the driver and not the car in some cases but whats that take away from anything....like a duel, you chose your weapon not my fault if you dont know how to use it
as with the coupe turbo all i'd say to people is .. its a shame in most cases your weapon cost 30+ times more than mine did and still didnt do the job for you.
Buying the car and then the mods your metro to 120 bhp cost £266? (including the car) that's quite impressive bargaining. (266 is about 1/30th of what my coupe has had spent on it for mods, including the car in the first place)
So do you go around saying you took 10-15 car lenghts off of a TVR, or do you just say, he was a tit and made an arse of flooring it in the wet, meaning all I did was floor it away from a car pretty much sitting still and not making any forward progress?
No offence but it seems your putting a very dubious slant on the facts to suit your point, considered politics? lol.

Can i just add, it depends what Scooby, Scooby Turbos(215bhp) are truly slow as hell, its very rare id say i "anhialated" a car, and i hate poeple that do and brag they destroyed an M3 or whatever, but scoobys are easy to take 10car lengths at 100 at least. And it cant be the drivers because in the Maestro and my old 220 id trounce the 215bhp turbo models and in the Maestro WRXs all day long and always the same huge amounts. I Agree with what your saying though but Scoobys(apart from breathed on STis upwards~) arent fast.

this thread is rediculous lol.
What could happen, and what does actually happen, and what is PERCEIVED to have happened are usually completely different things...
straight line speed is a decent indication, this is obviously something where 4wd cars will begin to slow compared to an apparent rover under dog...
If youve been 'outhandled' by something, racing, then youve been driving like far too much of a tit in my opinion.

just clearing up for youshen wrote:as with the coupe turbo all i'd say to people is .. its a shame in most cases your weapon cost 30+ times more than mine did and still didnt do the job for you.
the tubby cost me £1100 and last time i checked a porsche boxster cost more than 30x times that
the metro was just an example of what i had beaten a tvr with. Any rich peckend can buy a powerful car and put his foot down on straight roads.
the metro cost me £450 btw and the engine later cost me £600
Fair enough. But you're still not beating the car, you're beating the driver. And yes I agree, it's sometimes nice when you see someone give it the big'un, only to make a complete hash of it.
To actually say 'I was faster' it would have to be a fair race. No wheel spins, no missed gear changes and no driver error. Otherwise you may as well say 'I've just beaten an Enzo, but he missed a gear so I won'.
As for the different flavours of Scooby, yes I agree some are quicker than others. But judging by the way this thread is progressing, I was asuming they were thinking of a 'P1' or a '22B' or an 'RA' not the slower ones
Cheers

a standard scooby would do nearly all original rover tubbys off the lights on grip alone, on performance most scoobys would out accelerate a rover turbo but as said before and im sure will again, its not the car, it is the driver!shen wrote:only if we drive standard subarus and are sitting at the lightsMickUK wrote:We could be here a while...
bet ive got more nerve than you in the bendy as fk b road neither of us know!
exactly didnt think so!
my 420 wasnt exactly standard but the one thing i will say is when rollin at about 50MPH i could keepwith most big turbo performance motors, but from stand still a cossie would annihalate me, a scooby or evo would decimate me but other FWD turbo motors were fair game.
after all we all boast about victorys but thats all it is boasting about beating something in a very uncontrolled enviroment, so to be fair after saying what i have beaton it is fair to say i have never beaton anyone as i have never done it in controlled circumstances!
