House Prices

Post by Martin »

Alright, I have been frustrated with house prices for some time. Here is the cheapest:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/rm/s/rm/temp ... 1&tr_t=buy

....hmmmm thats no good, can't get a mortgage on a shed!

How about the cheapest brick built accomodation:

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/rm/s/rm/temp ... 1&tr_t=buy

......a flat in the crumiest area of Basingstoke, which I would refuse to pay 87k for somewhere where your car would be damaged / broken into frequently!

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/rm/s/rm/temp ... 1&tr_t=buy

......That road has a drug abuse / dealing problem, or used to, plus is more expensive than the above at 95k. Don't like piss-smell stairwells either.

Only cheaper 1 bed accomodation is Granny Flats, or "Warden Assisted" which quite often have no onward chain, i.e previous occupant has died. A youngster wouldn't be able to get in anyhow:x

What a total rip off. Move up North you get proper houses for that kind of money, they have garages, gardens and look nice.

:D

Once again scank.

They are luxuries. Bloke at work and his wife pays £890 a month on a 25 year 150k mortgage, which has got them a year and a bit into purchasing their 2 Bedroom "starter" home....

Up North is quite cheap and I bought my first house Feb2003.

It's a 2 bedroom mid terrace,extended kitchen,gsh and double glazing all for £39000.

I thought that was a good buy. House is probably worth somewhere in the region of £45-50k looking in the local paper.

Christ that would have only got the ground floor around here when I got mine, might just get the living room now. My rebuilding costs are more than that

I used to live in North Wales, and houses were dirt cheap there as well, need about £50K joint income down here to be able to afford a decent house.

Have you thought about moving down here??

Here's an example for you,

http://www.rightmove.co.uk/rm/s/rm/temp ... 1&tr_t=buy

On the old council estate, better now than what it used to be, but not one of the best roads :?
However, close to the schools, thats the playing field in the background, ok if you like noisy kids!!

Cheap at £117k for a 1st floor flat!

Or if you want a bit more upmarket, and be just round the corner from us,

Get yourelf a house up North mate.
House prices tend to be alot cheaper up here.

Just as a guage. Im 19, and me and the missus have just brought a 3 bedroomed house with bay window, double glazing, brand new roof and big back garden for...............................................................£42,000.

Admittedly it did need a 'little' work, like a couple of walls plastering and some decorating but apart from that im dead chuffed with it.

Me and the missus are paying £200 a month on the mortgage between us, and another £50 a month for home insurance. Thats defo affordable between the both of us :)

Yeah, a move up north is a very wise decision if you can do it. With better paid jobs becoming more and more available, especially in the leeds, preston and manchester area's, add this to the cheap housing and you've got a very comfortable life!!! :D

I'm in a joe average job earning around £25k and bought a 2 bed semi on my own last year which is on a new style, quiet, development and is only 12 years old, for £60k!!! My mortgage is £310 a month which is easy to pay, so I added another £8k to the mortgage to do the place up (not that it needs any work, but I'm getting new fitted everything!!!) The mortgage is still comfortable at £360 a month and my house will be top class!!! :P

Going off what my neighbours have sold theirs for recently, the house has gone up £25k in just under the year I've been there and is now worth about £95k!!! But obviously house prices are still considerably cheaper than other areas!

Just my thoughts!!!

Mate, try looking at house prices in Fleet, Farnborough and Alder$hit!!

Cheapest house I have found in fleet is approx £190,000.00 best flat price is around £160,000.00!!!

Farnborough and Aldershot are a little better but not much!!
All the mortuage place round here say thet you need to be earing around £60,000.00 a year on your own or joint to be able to afford a place!!

New houses being built accross from my work, not much land or garden and very close together....starting price for a 2 bed house £260,000.00!!!

I'm just gonna stay at home....much cheaper!!

Chris,

I know Fleet is expensive - those prices don't suprise me one bit! Thing is with all these new housing developments is as you said, you pay all that money for a house which is the same as the one next door, your garden will most likely be short and narrow, and to top it off, whilst you are struggling to pay a mortgage someone accross the road has got one for £80 per week from the Council, so they have enough money to thrash it on the Audi TT!!! I know of one example of this so it does happen.

Steve, et al.

I was born in the South, my job is down here, my family and friends are down here - it would be such a change to up and go. Someone at work moved down from Telford to Woking, not only has he and his fiancee had the shock of higher cost of living, but he has no friends down here - don't quite think you could go to the pub and say "will you be my friend" lol

I am waiting for Grants view on this since he has moved from SW to 'oop North. Didn't get the impression he was particularely impressed?

I paid £25k for a 2bed, mid terraced with double glazing, GCH etc, a yard big enough for two cars...

That was little under 2years ago. Houses in my street now sell for £65-70k.

Thats just nuts.

A friend's parents have just sold a house in hackney(london) for 375k, I darent say what state it was in! they could have walked with 500k if they had looked after the place..

house prices have gone up so much... its alright if you own a house already, but if you are looking to buy 1 you have got hardly any chance at all unless you have a £40k+ job. :(

my mum bought the house that we are living in now (yes, i still live with my mum!) in devon, brand new, 4 bedroom, detached. a few years ago for £110'000.... now its worth £300'000! 8)

i think you should move up north to fella

me and missus are about to buy our first house and are looking at getting a three bed detatched with garage for 120k!!

this is off the plans of a new site cos you get it cheaper before they start building and then as the site gets finished the price goes up like my aunty who bought one for 105k and 6 months later it is worth 139k and the site is still not finished!!!

even if you don't like new house stay in till 2 year penalty on fixed mortgage is gone then sell for a big profit!!! :D :D

I'm gonna ramble a bit now, winge time.........

The current situation is rather depressing. A little history........

5 years ago we were earning a combined sum of 50K. We could comfortably afford 3/4 bed detached (good sized rooms) with a garage. Obviously, 3 bed terraced were much cheaper and thats what we opted for.

Then I screwed up.

Now we have a combined income of 22K. The most we could borrow (no chance of that though - see screw-up) now is 40K. If we had this income 5 years ago we could have purchased any of the 3 bed terraced properties without fuss. As it is, no house is less than 80K, very few 'flats' are under 45K. As it happened I made us homeless (literally) and it has taken 3 years for me to get back in the real world. We currently live in a council flat, waiting for an offer on a house. I can sit back now with cheap rent observing what happens - not part of it..........

I do know everyone in the place where I work earns less than 12K, so I also know that none of them could begin a house purchase now. These people (and I) are currently unable to purchase anything, thats 50 individuals. Our factory is typical of the area (I have worked in a few), not many people break the 13K mark, as an industrial town there are a lot of factories!

Now, if I was back doing my old 28K job, remember, thats a very good wage round here....... well, we still couldn't afford to buy a house.

Its hardly pushing me to find a better job!

Housing, a sore point at the moment in our household, because me and the missus need our own place desperatly, i'm now bringing in a full time wage, the other half has come into some money, and we only want to rent.

We have found a number of places for £3-350 PM, but the housing agency has put us on some stupid list and we dont even get a look in. Doing my head in right now
