Update on the coupe....

Post by tonyvitesse »

Just a quick update on this.

http://www.rt2468abcd.r8technology.co.uk/viewtopi ... highlight=

The car is still with me.

I put it into the garage to have the drive shaft changed and to get a pre MOT done. Got a phone call at about 6.15 that evening (I was picking up the next morning) telling me that it had been involved in an accident.

Basically, one of the mechanics was pulling it in for the night someone came round the corner, mounted the pavement and hit it.

Arguments are going on about who is at fault between the garage and the other driver. Until it is resloved I don't know what is happening with it. It looks an easy repair, but it's whether the insurance company will see it my way or if they'll just see it as another old Rover off the road.

Pics are below....

Shows his damage, my damage, where my car was at impact, the skid marks and a few shots of the road/conditions.

No idea how the fvcker has ended up on the path though. :? Almost wish he'd gone into the side of mine and wrote it off properly. At least I'd know one way or the other. Should here what happens with their insurance tomorrow.

Closer pics of the damage...

Looks like it needs: Bonnet, bumper, crashbar, mounts, number plate.

What do you guys think? Will they repair it? It is/was one of the best examples I have ever seen, would be gutted if this was the end for it.
Jap import gone. Currently on the look out for another turbo though. PM me if you have a good'n.

Oh, and not going to name names on the garage. They are being as helpful as they possibly can in getting things sorted for me.

Bonnet just looks sprung tbh. Bumper is knacked. You need to check the state of that fan behind it too, and the condenser.

How in the feck did he hit that on the path? :? Friggin boy racers.

When you look down the skin of the bonnet you can see a crease, just didn't catch it on camera. My heart sank as soon as I saw the garages number come up on my phone. You know the "this can't be good news" moment.

Seems like the insurance companys are going to sort it out. Just wonder how long it will take.

Looks like he was tanking it, saw your car, slammed on and skidded into it.

Must have been doing some speed to skid that far.

Agree with Si... fecking boy racers in Corsas!!! :x

Hope you get it sorted Tony :(

 WTF! how on earth go you skid into someone on the pavement :? Can only take it someone was going too fast for bend :x

Hopefully they'll fix it, see no reason not to, as it was the most peachiest coupe around IMO

they'll fix that i should imagine. Its only the newer MG-R that are hard to get parts for. Still plenty of new/old stock for the R8's kicking about.

How he managed that though i'll never know :?

Depends if its 'economical' to repair to wether they write it off TBH,my wife just had an accident in her GTT,someone drove into the back of her,it needs a tailgate, new rear panel & a bumper, add the cost of getting the work done & sprayed :( asseser came out & basically said it was a total loss, the rear isn't that bad tbh & i've had a qoute of £800 to repair it with a new panel & 2nd hand bumper/tailgate.... he said the cost of the new parts etc,etc coz they wouldn't use 2nd hand.... You get what i'm trying to say...if the damage is as bad as you say it is don't hold out much hope for her.

But you could get paid out & buy it back & repair it yourself like we are going to :D

That was just down to a kn4ckerd battery matey. Before I bought it I don't think it had been used much. New battery and away we went.

Another update.

So it was crashed ten weeks ago almost to the day. An insurance assessor has come out today.

£950 with the car back as it is or it gets repaired. Absolutely fuming if I'm honest.

Been up to the garage to get the last of my things out of it, it's running like a sack of logger after being stood for so long. Am I right in thinking that they would be liable for putting that right also?

Dont' worry about it running rough, min'e sbeen stood way longer than that and the worst that gets is a sticky valve.

Take the 950, it won't cost that much to put right - at least nightfire is a popular colour. :)

I really don't have the energy any more to put into it matey. Loved the car to bits but the last few month have just been such a trying time for me that I couldn't bring my self to put the work into it. Would rather have the cash in my back pocket and let someone care for it as it deserves.

It wouldn't even take a morning's work to put that right. :)

I'd be surprised if it doesn't run right after a bit of TLC.

Yes, but what puzzles me is that if he was going too fast he should have ended up on the outer part of the bend rather than the inner....

(in theory).

Bizarre incedent.

Put it down to "just one of those things". All settled now and just waiting for a nice cheque to come along and make me feel better.

May look at another Rover turb once it comes through. ;)
