Has anyone put a Rover T16 Turbocharged engine in an MG ZT ?
The concept has great appeal for me. I know T16 turbos have been slotted into ZR/25, ZS/40/45s, MG Maestros and Montegos but cannot recall an MG ZT with that transplanted lump.

Why? Maybe they'd want to do it to a ZT Estate? The only other estate option would be a Tourer, which is a fair bit older. Plus it's something different. I bet you'd have said no point doing that to a Bubble, when they could tune the Vi Engine back in the day..Squish wrote:I must ask why would you want too?? Get an MG ZT 190 or a MG ZS 180 they are juat as quick as if they had the 2l Turbo lump in them plus they have more tourqe and then you could supercharge the V6 would be rather interesting.
I personally think it would be rather point less.
Plenty of point if you ask me, KV6 FTL

i was looking into a few years back when the mgr auction took place as I wanted the tourer they where selling with the x power decals ect, at the time I was building a t16 with m series pistons so was thinking about dropping that into the zt, I asked a few people and the only main problem they came up with is it might need a custom mount welding in.
on the note of the 2 engines the kv6 is a lovely smooth engine but bloody thirsty and a mother hen to get good power out of, the suppercharger route ressults in dead engines replacement lumps are expensive and hard to get hold of and imho dont make anywhere near as much torque as a good t16.
reyland has just started ussing the tt engine recently for there conversions so tbh Id go down that route with a zt and maybe my zs in the months years decades lol to come

Hmm a 300bhp turbocharged ZT-T is a nice thought!

Rubbish ZT 190's are dog slow for the power. My Vi BEFORE I had the head ported and uprated ex cam still managed to whoop the backside of a ZT 190 and all it had then was about 155-160 BHP.Squish wrote:I must ask why would you want too?? Now compare power to weight ratio, and you'll see why you kicked its butt...*ASHY* wrote:Rubbish ZT 190's are dog slow for the power. yeah fair enough,i suppose if you dont want a money pit for a car then your right, plus there would be other factors to consider like a zt would most prob be heavier than volvo(although i haven't looked on parkers or anything to see if it is),im just a fan of the t5 since my parents bought one ! sorryPunx0r wrote:Because the T5 has no commonality with the ZT whatsoever. At least with a K-series the T16 gearbox will fit up. No need for a bastardised flywheel/clutch
as said by others, there is always the zt260.

As well as not being easy to fit, the T5 unit is as far as im aware bigger and heavier. Also, for the cost of a T5 engine you could get a T16 and rebuild it for a reliable 400bhp.....
