I am Legend

Post by PJW »

Should be "I am Leg End"

Another rubbish Will Smith-pithy-comeback-routine.

Inevitable, easy to guess where the plot goes and the same as every other virus/zombie film.

Not recommended.

Can't believe Will Smith has an open relationship/marriage with Jada Pinkett-Smith :o

Isn't this a remake-ish of 'The Omega Man'?

Kinda 'last man alive in the city apart from night zombies, struggle for survival' stuff?

If so, has some work to do to better the original. Chuck Heston was quite good but Anthony Zerbe as the head zomb was truly scary!! :o

Most modern American films are remakes of older classics.

Independence Day was a remake of War of the Worlds as was, well, War of the Worlds with Tom Cruise.
The Ring and The Ring2 as opposed to Ring and Ring 2 (those mainly done since yanks can't watch films AND read subtitiles at the same time.
AI was Pinocchio meets ET.
The Assassin with Bridget Fonda was a scene by scene remake of a French language film, the title of which escapes me.

The Jackal - remake of the old 60s film The Day of the Jackal - imho the original is much better.

The Italian Job - remake was carp in comparison to the original.

The War of the Worlds - old one was total sh!te so the remake didn't have much to beat lol

I haven't seen this film yet, but I'll reserve my judgement until I have.

Nikita.

One of my faves is 'Yojimbo (The Bodyguard)', remade as 'Fistful of Dollars', which was re-re-made as 'Last Man Standing'. :P

'Day of the Jackal'? Read the book by Frederick Forsyth. 1,000 times better than the film!!

'The Krays'? Read the book on which it was based, 'The Profession Of Violence' by John Pearson. 2,000 times better than the film.

Hactually independance day was originally penned to be a sequal to stargate. Swap the flying pyramids with saucers and there you have it.

Good film IMO. Based on the Omega man which in its time was pretty good.

My only dissapointment was the "infected" were too computer animated.[/b]

I've now found that the Will Smith character is Dr Robert Neville, same as the Charlton Heston one in The Omega Man. Wiki says this:-
The Omega Man is a 1971 science fiction thriller starring Charlton Heston. The movie is based on Richard Matheson's 1954 novel, I Am Legend.....
I doubt that I'll see this, as The Omega Man was such a good 'un!

The new Italian job had little to do with the original and it seams using the good name to sell average film.

I refer the original war of the worlds film to the tom cruse one, but having said that id rather listen to the vinyl and look at the pictures in the booklet and use my imagination to whats going on.

Well going by the looks of the trailers for next years new releases I think I am Legend is probably the best we'll be getting in the cinema for a while as the trailers for other films looked carp.

Looks rubbish to me :P

Was talking to my hairdresser about I am Legend today and ended up talking about Hitler and Milosevic lol. Strange how totally different subjects can get linked in to the same conversation like that lol.

I saw it on saturday, I thought it was good.

Probably the most realistic/believable zombie film I've seen tbh.

It was similar to 28 days later I guess in that sense, but due to Will Smiths acting I prefered it as I felt more attached to the character. Was really rather sad when the dog turned and he had to strangle it.

Ending was not quite what I expected, and not overly happy, but still pretty good I thought.

As for people who moan about the action in the last 20 mins, I believe this is called building to a climax and is fairly common in stories/films ;)

Oh, and the Shelby GT500 at the start was fecking awesome.

I liked 'I Am Legend'

Will Smith's acting was superb... right until the end :(

What a way to ruin a great film. Seriously disappointed by the ending.

I was grinning all the way through that part as the whole cinema filled with the sound of Shelby muscle 8)

It made me chuckle with regard to his acting, as I was watching the Fresh Prince of Bell Air before I saw the film lol. He really has developed in to a great actor, and can do a good variety of different stuff, just look at The Persuit Of Happiness. Top man!

The missus took me to see it for my birthday and I enjoyed it. Not the ending I was expecting but I think I liked it because it really is close to a possible future reality.

Even the missus said she liked it and she hates zombie-style movies (she must really love me to take me to see one lol)

The ex-aston villa striker? You must have been talking about people who were really rubbish!!!

Regarding the film......****SPOILER ALERT****

If he was such a legend, why didn't he think to rig up UV lights in his lab? End of zombies.........n00b

All in all 28 days later remains one of my favourite all time films, but I did enjoy this one too. I watched the DVD rip through my xbox 360 and 5.1 surround. It makes such a massive difference to the experience of watching a film. £75 from pc world :)

its good for a film and an hour and a half entertainment but then it lets its self down, the book is better, it goes into more detail about other things in they have borrowed and used in the film, for instance the alpha male is after him because he 'stole' his alpha female but in the book he was his best friend and the vampires are more human and taunt him, good film though, would like to see the omega man.
its good to google!!!
