Am I going Mental???

Post by shen »

Contemplating sorting the dents on my coupe out today I decided I'd go buy a Slide Hammer....

Was near Halfrauds and so went in to see if they had any for sale...

apparently they've never heard of such a thing and asked me what exactly it was for..then pointed me toward normal hammers

Odd I thought but Halfords are crapola so I'll try somewhere else..

B&Q .... Also didn't sell them or know what one was and I had to explain them what it was and how it was used.

Am I going crazy...have I just invented this device in my head cos right now that's kinda how I'm thinking or is it some conspiracy to cover up the existence of the slide hammer :D

I wouldn't expect any of those places to have heard of a slide hammer, an old fashioned motor factors maybe, but none of those big places.

Aye reef one of those... I thought everyone knew what one was.

Didn't think it was exactly specialist gear and certainly not for halfords or B&Q to have never heard of one.

What the bloody hell else is there as an alternative??

odd indeed to me

everyone should know what one is mate but like most "comercial" hardware stores now, not one of thier employees has a feckin clue about tools or DIY in general, im sure if you asked them for a bubbleless spirit level theyd know what one is.

Havent you got any of those small hardware stores which are covered floor to ceiling with everything...there like bloody treasure troves if your after something and usually owned by an ex tradesman or somebody who knows everything about tools id be very suprised if they didnt or would be able to get hold of one for you mate

Thanks chaps.. at least I know I haven't gone mad and dreamt up something that doesn't exist.

There is a few small but very well stocked Motor factors near me that I'll visit tomorrow morning...

just tried those 2 today as they are pretty much in the same complex and I was over that way.

Screwfix, about £15. :)

My mate brough round something that looks like a fat glue-stick with a hook on the end. Heat the panel and touch this thing against it and hook the slide hammer in. Pulls dents out very nicely and comes off with very cold water.

If you want to confuse Halfrauds staff, ask for a set of crows-foot spanners. :)
