If you do a search on you tube for blyton skyline it will show you the track. Looks like a giggle.

those bags of spoil look less inviting than armco, I would think brunters would be approachable as they run a few weekend car shows there already

Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
those bags aren't too bad i've been going there for over ten years never seen any one hit one yet ! there just a bit back form track side plenty of run off
Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
I'd be up for coming along to a meet if it included track time.
My suggestions:
- RAF Barkston Heath
- Woodbridge
- Finmere Autodrome
Or Curborough. Can be hired for c.£200 in a weekday - if it still exists next year!
A track like Cadwell is c. £1600 a day to hire without services on a weekday....

Interested in a big meet, with or without track action. As Cableguy said, would be willing to travel around 100 miles.
Shakespeare Raceway as another suggestion? Looking at their site they run a Ford weekend, could do similar for MG/Rover I'm sure.

I would put up with the camping if a big a big turn-out. Otherwise a hotel would do me fine.

Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
Barring a massive work conflict, deathly illness or other disaster I will be there.
Hiring a track sounds like an excellent idea. I reckon for an exclusive track day people won't mind travelling much further to get there (and making an overight stop) - I certainly wouldn't.
I think £1600 for the day wouldn't be a problem. With 20 cars that's only 80 quid each, which would be a bargain.

I don't really have a Rover based car any more. Though the Rover heater would keep me warm.Tubzziiee_Jr wrote:matt077 wrote: Had the ford Weekender there.. was a great success last year... didnt go this year lol as i didnt have a ford![]()
Though the guys here have been very welcoming. I think you should come to these events, even if you don't for example have a Rover based car. It's the passion for Rover that counts as well I think.

Well can roll with the numbers on the morning of the event. Say we get 30, then we can simply recalculate costs.

Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
I would get some prices first and how much in advance it needs to be booked and paid for etc. Might even get discounted price.
Then get some suggested dates. Get say a £10-20 deposit from those going. Maybe stick to a max of 20 if it's a track, not a strip day. If you get too many cars on a track day, can be to many cars on the track at once.
£80 for a track/airfield day is nothing. For a strip day/weekend though, is a bit expensive. All in my opinion of course.

Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
I'd be game for a decent meet, as long as enough notice is given so I can arrange time off work etc.
Don't mind doing a track/quarter mile thing either.
Has this been posted on the coupe forum? Those lads always seem to have a decent turn out to their events. Maybe a joint effort or similar?! The more the merrier after all.

I will go with the flow though, and in relation to notice, this is it I guess, lol. We just gotta nail the date and location and hopefully we can all just book the time off ASAP.

I'd try approaching someone like Javelin and asking for help organising. They've got a lot of muscle with tracks/airfields/sprints so even with a margin added on would still be able to offer something cheaper than we could achieve. They are also quite cheap when you book very big groups through them.
PLUS if we don't get the numbers, they can and will just open it up to general public so we won't loose out on £ each.

Might be worth doing a google map if venues in the central area? I have no idea where most venues are. Start getting a list of venues to start getting peoples views.
Been to a few Javelin days. Good day out.

Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
Please forgive me as I'm a newbie and I don't yet understand how this forum/club operates but I feel if that it is to be a 'national' day / weekend it is best that the general public are invited if not to raise the profile of the forum/club then to try and cover some costs. Trackdays are good for you guys with 98 ron running thru your veins but not something I would do with my daily drive so a static show would do me. Some people where talking about 20/30 cars turning up for a trackday which to me seems not enough cars to make it a 'national' day but very good for a club trackday. It might be a good idea to 'buddy up' with another club / marque and organise a sort of RWYB at Shakespeare or even Santa Pod. I have attend both venues with my mini, OK these were mini only shows so they were well attened but if done the same thing with another club/ marque I would imagine it would be well attended as well.PLUS if we don't get the numbers, they can and will just open it up to general public so we won't loose out on £ each.

Re: Rovertech 2010 National Meeting
If a trackday was chosen I think we could accomodate a fair few people. We'd know the track capacity, but I imagine you can have several times as many people use it because I doubt anyone would want to run constantly on it.
A BBQ etc going on for those not running.
Depending on the facilities you could have activitives running in parallel, perhaps a handling course if there's an open area and a bunch of cones available. 1/4 mile run, top speed run if there's a long straight. Anything that used to be an airfield might well have all these.
Stip day would also be good.
Once a day is set I think anyone wanting to attend should pay up front. Then the venue booking finalised when the money is in. No one has to stick their neck out then or have to worry about chasing up payment. Anyone wanting to join in later could pay the same as everyone else and their cash go into a pot for various club related things, or used to partially refund the original payers.

yeah im up for this guys!
travel distance if the meet is going to be as promising as it sounds!
the first uffinton meet we had was about 12 cars! that was quite a turn out i thought, 20+ would be brilliant!
so just wondering, what is the current plan we are going with?
renting a track for the day? or?..

Renting a track for a day would be a good way to have it. I feel that we have to settle on somewhere to attack over the phone first though.
