93ps or 105ps

Post by Chris 25 »

How do I tell if my 25 1.4iL is a 93ps or a 103ps?

(Not knowing, I'm assuming it's a K-series engine)

I believe the difference comes from whether you engine is SPi (Single point injection) or MPi (Multi-point)

Multi-points are normally easy to spot as they have a rail of 4 injectors

It's pretty much down to the Throttle body, the 83ps version being restricted and the 103ps version being unrestricted. You need a new accelerator cable and an unrestricted throttle body.

95ps 1400 K-series engines have not been made since about 96 i think. Your IL will either be a 103ps engine (all have MPI), or it could be a restricted 84ps version, with the only difference being the throttle cable and throttle body as far as i know.
Most 8v 1.4K's were SPI, but the last Rover 100's were MPI, still 75ps, and indeed all Rover 200/25's are MPI when fitted with the 8v engine too.

incorrect! they made the 'low power' 1.4's right up until rover went bump, the only way you will know is the difference between throttle bodies, which was mentioned in an earlier reply to the post

As well as throttle body difference, didn't one have 16valves and the other 8?

There was an 8v, a 75ps version, but but there was a full power and restricted 16v too, i think he has a 16v.

All 25 petrols were 16v were they not ?
The 200 had a 1.1 8v for a while and a 1.4 8v .

The R25 was all 16v engine's im fairly certain. The 95ps engine was used up to 96, and had SPI injection. MGR did make a reduced power 1.4k right up to the end, but this was a restricted 103ps engine, hence the different throttle body and cable.
One more thing to confuse people further, is that the 1.1 8v and the 1.4 8v engines, used for a short time in the R200 mk3, were not carried over to the R25, but they used a 75ps 1.1 16v engine instead to replace both 8v units. Every K-series engine ever used in the R200 mk3, and R25's has been fitted with multipoint injection though!

I'm pretty sure the iL would not have had the restricted throttle body. As far as I am aware the restricted throttle body was only fitted to the 25 i and special editions.

I've fitted the 48mm unrestricted throttle body to my 2000 25i and its made a big difference..
