What else went wrong this xmas break? lol!

Post by dave_d »

Decided, on the 23rd, my mrs wanted to go to the graveyard to lay down some flowers on her Mum's grave, and I though yeah, why not, I will give you a lift

Of course, me not thinking, Portsmouth was playing at hime that day.....Took me over an hour to go 4 miles!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And about half way there, traffic moved, I pulled off, slipped it into 2nd, lifted clutch, and CLUNK!!!! Now I cant put it in 1st gear, pushed as far forward, and it just revved.....Eventually managed it then I had no 5th!

The UJ Part of the gear selector broke!!! Couldnt remove it either no matter what I tried, even followed the step by step guide on here, cant remove the roll pin, it wont budge, tried drilling it and didnt work, so had to weld it while it was on the car as a tide me over till I replace it

I cant think of how the hell im going to remove it, but hopefully if I can get the time, and a nice guy from here I know has the time, I may be able to get it sorted soon...Any idea of what i could do in the mean time to help with ease of removal if I can get it sorted soon?

Heard its a common problem with these too...And I have been advised to get hold of the UJ from a steering rack which I am going to get this weekend

The Roll pin can be a right beehatch! It either pops straight out or firmly refuses to move. Just a case of beating it till it comes out.

mine was a mother hen to get out so i grownd a punch down so it had a step on it that was just a tiny tiny bit smaller than the outside diameter of the roll pin. this ment i could really hit it hard without spreadin the roll pin due to the punch being located up inside the roll pin and the step was on the end surface.
and with a lot of hammering it did eventually come out.
hope this helps

i find a 10mm headed bolt will do the trick, it has to be quite long but fits the hole perfectly to tap it out. even the toughest of roll pin haven't been able to defeat this
